About the examination
The information in this section is based on the 9609 syllabus for examination from 2023. You should always refer to the appropriate syllabus document for the year of your students’ examination to confirm the details and for more information. The syllabus document is available on the Cambridge International website at www.cambridgeinternational.org. For learners taking the AS Level qualification for Cambridge International AS & A Level Business, there are two examination papers. Paper 1 consists of two parts: four short answer questions in Section A and two essay questions in Section B. In Section B, learners are expected to choose one question. In Section A there are two parts to the first three questions. All four questions are compulsory. In Section B there are two parts to each of the essay questions. Paper 2 consists of two data response questions, both of which are compulsory. There are six parts to each question. Learners taking the A Level qualification must also sit two additional examination papers. Paper 3 is based on a case study featuring a fictitious business. The focus of this paper is business decision-making. There are five questions. Question 3 has three parts and question 4 has two parts. Paper 4 is also based on a case study, again featuring a fictitious business. The focus of this paper is business strategy. The two compulsory essay questions on this paper will cover all four assessment objectives.
