'Completely unsupported'
Glenn Downes has an acquired brain injury a
a result of cancer treatment.
On the other side of the country, Rebecca Harvey's 46-year-old
husband Glenn Downes initially had his application for in-home
support rejected by the NDIS.

The Sydney oncology nurse also has a diagnosed acquired brain injury
as a result of cancer treatment and requires mobility aids and a
support worker.

Glenn was forced to stay in hospital for months as the couple sought a
review of the decision.

"We felt completely unsupported and without options," his wife

Rebecca said.

"I'm devastated for Glenn that the system he gave his life to has let
him down when he needed it most."

Only in recent days — five months after Rebecca first applied — did
the NDIS overturn its decision and agreed to fund Glenn's supports at
home.

The NDIA has apologised, but Rebecca said Glenn would never get
back the time he could have had with his son at home.
