Senior Capstone Project Student/Mentor Commitment

A mentor for the Senior Project should be chosen with great care since the Mentor oversees the
Senior Project and is the expert in the field the student is exploring. An ideal mentor, for example,
would be an instructor in the academic area of choice, a respected member of the community, or a
business person who is willing to help the student achieve their goals. The mentor must be 18 years
or older and may not be related to the senior.

The Mentor provides three essential services for the student:

1. Guides the student through the project phase - give support and encouragement, while also
pushing the senior’s limits beyond previous knowledge, experience or skill level.
2. Helps the student organize information through establishing a realistic timeline and gain
experience in the field chosen.
3. Reflects on the overall project experience through a mid-project and final project evaluation
form, as well as a letter of completion needed for certification.

The mentor and student complete and sign this commitment. This commitment lists the
expectations the mentor and student have for each other. It helps focus your meetings and provides
direction. You will submit a digital copy of your commitment but YOU, the student, are responsible
for your hard copy.
