The crisis theory explores the interventions and cognitive processes regarding
mental health. Throughout life we may find ourselves in situations that may be stressful
and feel that there is no way out, and that at the same time may affect our personal life,
work life, etc. In the document we can find the example of Tom, his wife left him for
another man during the worst circumstances, making him go down a spiral and entering
in a state of “Crisis”, and the question is: What is crisis? In this case, the document is
referring to an emocional crisis, characterized by great emocional disorganization,
disturbance, and a collapse in previous coping strategies, and a life event is normally
the cause of it. For a crisis to be solved or have a final resolution there are various
factors that are involved such as, the severity of the precipitating event, the individual’s
resources, like strength, and the individual’s emorinal support from others (social
resources). Additionally, the paper investigates the link between crises and mental
functioning, as well as the role of decision-making in crisis resolution. Overall, the
document focuses on the theoretical underpinning for understanding and responding to
crises from a cognitive perspective.

The paper provides an explanation of differents key points that we have to take into
consideration when analyzing a situation of crisis, such as the steps involved in crisis
intervention, including shock, defensive withdrawal, acknowledgment, and adaptability,
also the social readjustment rating scale, which rates different life experiences
according to how they affect readjustment, elements including autonomy, bargaining
tactics, family mythology, and emotional aspects that influence family dynamics and
structure. The CASIC profile, which evaluates a person's behavioral, affective, sensory,
cognitive, and visual aspects. And the theoretical underpinnings of crisis theory, such as
the interplay of risk factors, the crisis event, how the event is perceived, coping
strategies, and the availability of social support.

So in general, the paper clarifies how a crisis situation can be first approached and
also provides an invaluable structure for understanding and dealing with people who are
experiencing a crisis. The crisis theory facilitates a more profound comprehension of
when an individual is experiencing a crisis and how to offer suitable support by
exploring the cognitive and affective dimensions of crisis as disturbances in coping and
decision-making processes. The theory focuses on the significance in determining the
function of symptoms and behaviors within the framework of a crisis, emphasizing the
analysis of these aspects. The idea also emphasizes the necessity of helping people
reconcile competing systems and make judgments. All things considered, this method
offers perceptions that can guide useful assistance plans, assisting people in navigating
the intricacies of emergency circumstances, because if an individual is sufficiently
trained and well-informed about how a crisis can be managed, it can positively affect the
people who is going through one, since it is going to be easier to deal with it.
