The trials of moving home during lockdown

Moving to a new house is always a monumental task in the best of times, but it goes without saying that it
has been a steeper hill to climb during lockdown. Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I have had to
endure this over recent months, moving from my long-term home in Guildford to Putney in South-West
London. The task in hand was further compounded by my requirements to find a property that would be
suitable for my business as a music producer as well as a home.

Finding reputable residential property solicitors in Surrey was quite straightforward, which assured me
that selling my existing property would not be an issue, however finding a suitable semi-detached home in
London with enough space proved to be a lot harder. Due to my work in commercial music production,
sound insulation and acoustic windows were a crucial factor both to insulate sensitive recording
equipment from outside - airplane noise reduction, traffic sounds etc. Furthermore, I employed the
services of party wall surveyors in the renovation and construction process to prevent making enemies
of my new neighbors with my music.

After 3 months of perseverance, I finally found a property that ticked all the boxes, and luckily, I found a
great company called RedBox in London to complete the studio loft conversion to my specifications. With
my budget spent, the rest of the family home renovations were left up to me, though D.I.Y. is not my
strong suit I am pleased with the results. It turns out that doing up a kitchen, bathroom, and a small
garden office is most satisfying!
