Introduction:
The rapidly expanding technology of cellular communication, wireless LANs, and satellite services
will make information accessible anywhere and at any time. Regardless of size, most mobile
computers will be equipped with a wireless connection to the fixed part of the network, and, perhaps,
to other mobile computers. The resulting computing environment, which is often referred to as mobile
or nomadic computing, no longer requires users to maintain a fixed and universally known position in
the network and enables almost unrestricted mobility. Mobility and portability will create an entire
new class of applications and, possibly, new massive markets combining personal computing and
consumer electronics.
Mobile Computing is a term used to describe technologies that enable people to access network
services anyplace, anytime, and anywhere.
Main principles:
Computing remotely on mobile devices has its advantages and disadvantages. With the ability to
utilize mobile software and communicate actively, these are several principles in which mobile
computing stands by:
● Portability: Facilitates movement of device(s) within the mobile computing
environment.
● Connectivity: Ability to continuously stay connected with minimal amount of lag/downtime,
without being affected by movements of the connected nodes
● Interactivity: The nodes belonging to a mobile computing system are connected with one
another to communicate and collaborate through active transactions of data.
● Individuality: A portable device or a mobile node connected to a mobile network often denote
an individual; a mobile computing system should be able to adopt the technology to cater the
individual needs and also to obtain contextual information of each node.
i) security issues that are related to transmission of information over wireless networks
ii) issues that are related to information and data residing on mobile devices.
Mobile computing is all about portable and small computers, which includes PDAs (Personal Digital
Assistants) like mobile phones, palmtops, laptops etc. In this growing technological world, people are
much bound to work on computers and Internet. People are attracted towards mobile devices
because of their major features such as- Mobile computing can be defined as the ability to use
technology that is not physically connected to any static network. Nowadays, most laptops and
personal digital assistants(PDA) all have wireless cards or Bluetooth interfaces built into them for very
Good mobile internet access. Features of mobile computing are:
