Hamlet and, like a fine wine. Hamlet has been produced countless times; it has come to the screen
through sit-coms, in epithets varying from early, hushed adaptation to ostentatious, color pictures.
The actors in the film determinedly strive to grant the archaic language lucid and natural readings
that they put at stake much of its poetic sound. For the first time he is not Hamlet’s son or Prince
Hamlet he has become a person. He wants everyone to know how true and real he is and can only
express it through acting which he has grown to understand and appreciate. By engaging with these
resources, students will identify what the text says explicitly and implicitly, apply knowledge of
literary devices, interpret figurative expressions, make engagement with text visible, and more. My
reaction surprised me most of all, I never expected to find something of Shakespeare’s that I not only
dislike, but also detest. However, translating the clearly inexplicable lines has been the challenge to
all the actors of this production, given they had muster enough confidence to attempt that memorable
poetry. It really hits a variety of genres and kept me turning the pages.
