Formative Assessment: (Kindergarten)(Math)

Standard: K.G.4 Describe and compare two- or three-dimensional

shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language
to describe their commonalities, differences, parts, and other
attributes.

Objective: After learning that 3d shapes are solid and 2d shapes are
flat, the students will be able to identify the difference between 2D
and 3D shapes to complete a sort.

Identify and name the assessment that will measure successful learning
related to the objective: The assessment is a “The Very Hungry
Caterpillar” 2D and 3D sort. The students will be given the options
of shapes that are 2D and 3D and will work together to decide if it
should go in the 2D category or the 3D category. It will measure
success learning because it will allow for the TC to see if the
students understand the difference between 2D and 3D shapes.

Describe the assessment, insuring it is developmentally appropriate:

In my Kindergarten classroom, they often use sorts when comparing two
things. The students will complete a 2D and 3D sort in which they
will be given the options of different 3D and 2D shapes and must put
them in the correct category. This is developmentally appropriate
because the students have some knowledge about 2D and 3D shapes but
this lesson will show the difference that 2D shapes are flat while 3D
shapes are solid.

Child Friendly Scoring Guide:

Differentiated Scoring Guide: The students in my class who have IEPs
are all on behavior IEPs. They often do not participate or work on
the assignment when they are supposed to. Other times they hurry
up and write whatever so that they can do something else.
Providing the two questions: did you work the whole time and did
you try your best is an important factor for these students and
it is important to include on their scoring guide. This is what
I have seen my mentor teacher do!

Take the scoring guide and score it as if a student completed your

assessment. Provide appropriate feedback on this scoring guide based
on what the student demonstrated and in child-friendly terms.
