HODGE PODGE COLUMN

- A hodge podge column is a type of column where the writer combines or lumps together
odds and ends of information, a poem, an announcement, a pointed paragraph, a
modernized proverb, a joke, or an interesting quotation.
- Topics in a hodge podge column are usually divided using bullets.

*Below is an example of a popular Ilonggo hodge podge column, Lapsus Calami.

 BEST MANGED GOV’T OFFICE

WITHOUT fear of contradiction, the district office of the Department of Public Works
and Highways (DPWH) in Kalibo, Aklan is perhaps the best managed government office in
Region 6, or maybe in the entire country.
For one, the physical layout of its various departments and sections are well-arranged and
properly organized.
Visitors are impressed of its organizational setup that is clearly presented in a billboard.
Unlike other government agencies and offices, DPWH-Aklan is clean and beautiful –
including its compound that loudly speaks of its friendly and warmth atmosphere.
Most important of all is the fact that its officers and staff are hospitable, amiable and
friendly.
Under the sterling leadership of District Engineer Noel Fuentebella, the personnel, staff
members, and officers are highly trained, competent and hardworking. We found them worthy of
praise.
Very transparent, the district office is so far one of the best DPWH offices in the region.
We observed that infrastructure projects under its supervision and management are
properly accomplished, too — not substandard as we found in other places,
If all government offices are of similar attributes, there is no reason why this country will
not move forward and easily gain prosperity.
Our congratulations to the men and women of DPQH – Aklan.

 WHERE IS MAYOR JED?

AS OF press time Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog’s whereabouts remained
unknown.
He has been out of the country since Aug. 31 when he attended a seminar on disaster
management in Yokohama, Japan.
He then flew to Malaysia to attend an urban summit held in A’Famosa Resort Hotel in
Alor Gajah, Melaka district, until Sept. 9.
Even his lawyer and spokesperson Mark Piad does not know his whereabouts.
There are some speculations that the much maligned mayor and favorite subject-matter of
President Du30 flew to the US via Singapore and proceeded to his hometown in Calgary, Canada
where his wife has a house.
However, he did not disclose the details of his trips to his office at Iloilo City Hall for
security reasons.
There is only one person in Iloilo City who knows everything about the mayor’s
whereabouts and thereabouts – lawyer nonpareil Hector Teodosio.

 ‘DANDANSOY BAYAAN KO IKAW’

DURING the mass oath-taking of new PDP-Laban members in the 1st District of Iloilo,
Sept. 7, at the “Garinasium” in Guimbal, a lively program made the affair ludicrously
entertaining.
Mayor Ninfa, beloved wire of great leader Oca, requested her daughter-in-law Inday
Janette to sing a popular Ilonggo song written before the war, “Dandansoy Bayaan Ko Ikaw.”
Dandansoy bayan ko ikaw
Pauli ako sa Payaw
Hinali ikaw hidlawon
Sa Payaw mo ako lantawon
Instead of “sa Payaw mo ako lantawon,” Inday Janette changed it to “sa Guimbal kita
kitaay.”
Former congressman Oca and Mayor Ninfa, who were sitting at the presidential table,
heartily laughed an really enjoyed it. He then kissed his wife.
Rumors have it that for so long time the couple were not staying together in their palatial
abode in Guimbal due to some reasons of their own and which no one could elucidate – not even
Inday Janette.

 SUBSTANDARD ROADS IN GUIMARAS

NOBODY who has seen or experienced going to the island of Guimaras has ever said the
road are good.
They, especially the visitors, say the roads are substandard.
It seems that officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways or the province
are already contended with what they have. They are not after quality performance. And they are
as silent as the lambs.
Or, are they afraid to complain? Are they afraid to question the officials concerned, or
those involved in the anomalies?
But there are concerned citizens complaining. They sent us text messages and emails.
Problem is they do not want to be identified for fear of the consequences.
Paging Gov. Samuel Gumarin!
Say mo, Director Wency?
