Problem Solving is the process that eradicates problems

A problem has to be understood, studied and the countermeasures

implemented in such a way that
 we are able to achieve the World Class level, setting a vision
 adopting a practical and systematic approach… without forgetting the
difference between fixing and solving
 a few simple guidelines are followed
 for each problem a focused improvement method is given
 based on a sequence of simple steps

The World Class level to be achieved

To be World Class…

MORE than 70% of the problems occurring

have to be eradicated

World Class

The typical starting point…

LESS than 10% of the problems that occur

are eradicated

… without forgetting the difference between fixing and solving

There is a big difference between

 PROBLEM SOLVING

And

 PROBLEM FIXING

FIXING A PROBLEM eliminates the symptoms,

not necessarily the root causes

Following some simple guidelines

 Restore before improving

 Apply the 5G Principles

– to factories
– to offices

 Implement the PDCA cycle

Giving focused improvement method to each problem

We have to apply loss-focused improvement methods

 machine… material… man losses
 achieving significant results… quickly
 holding gains

Machine…

 Breakdown reduction
 Set-up reduction
 Speed losses reduction
 Short Stops reduction
 Defects reduction
 “Lack of Material” elimination

… Man losses

 Cycle time standardisation

 Non-value added activity reduction
 Cycle time reduction
 Low-cost automation
 Team organisation
