Earth is excavated to make a railway tunnel.
The tunnel is a cylinder of radius 5 m and length 450 m.

a) Calculate the volume of earth removed. [2]

b) A level surface is laid inside the tunnel to carry the railway lines.

The diagram shows the circular cross-section of the tunnel.

The level surface is represented by AB; the centre of the circle is O and
angle AOB = 90∘.

The space below AB is filled with rubble. Calculate
