•Cristian Huygens (1690)

–light spreads out as a spherical wave from its

source, just as sound does.

– each point on a wave acts as a source for a new

wave emanating from that point.
What about light rays and what
we learnt in geometrical optics?
sin i / sin i' = (FF'/WF’) / (WW'/WF')
= FF' / WW'
= (vat) / (vgt)
= va /vg = constant (Snell's Law)

So yes, no contradictions, results like Snell-Descartes’

law can be obtained describing light as a wave.
