INSTANT MEASUREMENT
Innovative Inspection Technology to Increase Productivity

2
Advantages of the Instant Measurement System
IM-8000 Series

Measurements Performed in Seconds

Drastically reduce the amount of time and effort required for 3-M2 (Through-hole)

2-R1 (Through-hole)

inspection. With conventional methods, measurement time

increases in relation to the amount of dimensions taken. With
the IM Series, in just seconds you can check 300 dimensions. (Through-hole)

Intuitive Interface That Anyone Can Use

The easy-to-use interface allows anyone to operate the 70.000 70.000

system at the push of a button; Allowing for accurate and

repeatable measurement results.

Measurement Results Are Automatically Recorded

Measurement data is automatically saved and managed
as soon as a part is measured. Inspection reports can also 1 55.754 OK
2 100.015 OK
be created with the push of a button to increase post- 3 121.151 OK

measurement work efficiency.

SLOW
❙ Adjusting complex fixtures for part placement and datum setup is
time consuming
❙ An increase in the number of parts or dimensions can mean an
exponential increase in required time
❙ Data management and creating inspection reports can be tedious

INCONSISTENT
❙ Differences in the way the tool is used can result in inconsistent
measurements
❙ Changes in focus due to setup by different operators result in
inconsistent values
❙ Measurements rely heavily on operator judgment and experience

COMPLICATED
❙ Learning how to operate the measuring instrument takes time
❙ Operator error easily occurs during measurement, especially radius
inspection
❙ Dimensions requiring virtual lines or points add a layer of complexity

4
The IM-8000 Series solves these
problems by consolidating conventional
tools into one, single system.

FAST
❙ No time consuming positioning work or datum setup required
❙M
easure up to 300 dimensions on up to 100 parts with the push
of a button
❙ Automatically saves measurement data and creates inspection
reports

CONSISTENT
❙ Automatically identifies measurement points, ensuring that the same
measurement results are obtained each time
❙ Automatic focal adjustment prevents inconsistent values
❙ The simple place-and-press operation means consistent
measurement results regardless of the operator

EASY
❙ Easily set up measurements with just a few clicks
❙S
etting up virtual lines and points is just as simple
❙N
o measurement expertise is required to measure parts

Measurement Bone Screw
Example

1
Inspect the screw profile at the helix angle and other
measurements at the push of a button. For rapid, 100% inspection,
measure a tray of up to 100 screws at one time!

Conventional models

Dimensional Measurement System

Vernier caliper, optical comparator, thread gauge

Problems and Issues

Measuring with optical comparators and measuring microscopes takes time and is prone to operator-caused errors.
Measuring with vernier calipers and micrometers is also prone to errors. With a thread gauge, measurement is time-
consuming, the gauge can become worn, and only a pass/fail judgment can be performed.

IM Series Image Dimension Measurement System

Major diameter, minor diameter, and pitch diameter measurements can be done
at the press of a button and with no operator-caused errors to worry about.
In addition to acceptance judgment, values can also be managed, which can
lead to precise process improvements. This allows precise instructions to be
given to customers for incoming inspections.

Dimensional Measurement System

Optical comparator, measuring microscope, 3D measuring instrument

Problems and Issues

With tubing, stents, catheters and guide wires, measurements that use virtual lines and hole center positions
are common, meaning measurements take time. User-caused measurement errors are also common, making
measurements that much more difficult.

IM Series Image Dimension Measurement System

Measurements—including hole pitch, pitch circle, and geometric

tolerances such as concentricity—can be performed just by placing
the part and pressing a button.

Measurement Vials and Seals - O-Rings
Example

3
Measure any material, even transparent parts, with our high-
contrast LED lighting. Non-contact inspection makes plastics and
rubber less subjective.

Conventional models

Dimensional Measurement System

Vernier caliper, tape measure

Problems and Issues

Contact from the vernier calipers can cause the O-ring to become distorted, giving rise to measurement errors. In
addition, if measurement is performed while the shape of the O-ring is distorted, values for a given measurement point
may change and prevent accurate measurements from being obtained.

IM Series Image Dimension Measurement System

Measurement is non-contact, so measured values are not affected

by contact pressure.
The ability to measure the O-ring’s inner circumference makes it
possible to determine the diameter and inner diameter.

The system allows users to program complex dimensions in
minutes with ease. Store thousands of part programs on a single
system or to a networked location.

Optical comparator, measuring microscope, optical CMM

Problems and Issues

Many time-consuming measurements need to be performed for surgical tools, drills, and reamers that have been subjected to
complex bending—including the magnitude of the bending radius and the position of the radius. Moreover, it is often necessary to
manage bending shape appearances, which opens the door to appearance alignment errors. Appearance data also needs to be
managed in order to compare initial press contact and final press contact. These are just a few of the many issues that come into
play.

IM Series Image Dimension Measurement System

Up to 300 features can be measured instantly even for complex

measurements such as virtual lines and radius center positions.
Comparisons with ideal bending shapes stored in CAD data and
bending appearances stored from initial contact can be easily
performed.

Visual inspection, optical comparator

Problems and Issues

When it comes to bone plates, spinal, implant and joint parts inspections, the similarity between a product and the
submitted prototype product is more important than dimensional measurement management. Conventionally, this could
only be done through visual inspection and contour alignment using optical comparators. Not only did this take time,
but also quantification of inspections was not possible.

IM Series Image Dimension Measurement System

The contour of an acceptable product can be captured directly,

allowing for appearance comparisons between an actual accepted
product and a mass-produced product.
