Tutorial 3
1. Discuss the difference between bitmap and vector graphics.
a. Describe five different graphic elements you might use in a project, for example, the
background, buttons, icons, or text.
b. Would you use a vector tool or a bitmap tool for each element? Why?

Background
-Bitmap graphics are suitable to use background.
-In bitmap graphics store color information in each and every pixels.
-The background images are having thousands of color information. There for each
element have a different color information.
-So Bitmap graphic is suitable to be use in this area as it is more colorful and
professional.

Buttons
-Vector graphics are suitable to use buttons.
-Because vector graphics file size is small. So it is loads faster than bitmap graphics.

Icons
-Vector graphics are suitable to use icons.
-Because vector graphics are made out of the paths and saved based on mathematical
equations.
-So we can adjusted the size of icons without losing its image quality and resolution.
-Vector graphics file size is small. So it is loads faster than bitmap graphics.

Texts
-Vector graphics are suitable to use Texts.
-Because texts are simple graphics and it only needs low resolution to show its purpose.
2. You are assigned to create an interface that will look good across platforms. a. What is
the difference between images as shown on a Macintosh and PC? How would you deal
with this problem?
-Mac pc color palette is differ than windows pc color palette.
-Therefore it is display different colors in-between two of these operating
system.
-Mac pc images are high quality bright images, but in windows pc images are not
that much quality and brightness.
-To reduce this problem web designers use web safe colors.

3. List several simple geometric shapes.

a. If you have a 3-D modeling program available, using these shapes, extrude or lathe
them to create various objects, such as a teapot, a tree, a car, a table, or a lamp.
Tea pot – Sphere, pipe
Tree – Cylinder, Sphere, Cone
Table – Cube, Torus
Lamp – Cylinder, Cone
Car – Cube, Pipe, Square, Circle

b. Think of some other objects. How would you use the simple geometric shapes
(called “primitives”) to create the 3-D object?
-We can use various geometric entities such as triangles, lines, curved surfaces to
model the 3D Objects.
-We can have 2 types of geometric entities
-Polygons primitives
-Nurbs primitives

-We can use cylinder and cube to create a chair.

-After creating the model if we want we can edit those using face, vertex, Edge
and curves.
-Then we can move them one point to another point.
-Then we can reshape this objects using some tools.
-Then we can combine those 2 objects and get the final 3D chair.
4. You are a designer given the task of creating a web site for a new division of your
company.
a. Start by defining the characteristics of the customers of the company and the kind of
image the company wishes to present to its customers.
-Sri Lanka Tourist Company
-Tourist may visit the site and search famous heritage places and they can make
reservations to the hotels.
b. Then specify a color palette to be used for the design of the site.
-Web Safe Colors
c. Defend your color choices by discussing the associations people have with the colors and
how they relate to your customers and the company’s image.
-This is an interactive web site.
-So this site should be more attractive to users.
-Site should have high quality photographs, maps and specialty of the places.
