WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH THAT COMPOSED THE MYSTICAL

BODY OF CHRIST?
A. Ordained Ministry
• ministers who receive the authority and power to serve the Church, acting in the person of Jesus, the head.
They are fundamentally ordered to serve the entire People of God.
Why are they called ordained?
• They are called ordained because they received holy orders from the Church through the Sacrament of
Holy Orders which was instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper where He Himself is the first priest.
As ordained ministers, what are the three-fold ministries of Jesus they perform?
A. Priestly Ministry
-They lead the offering of worship to God as in the celebration of the Eucharist and administration of
the sacraments.
B. Kingly Ministry
-They govern God’s people gathering them into one family of faith and love.
C. Prophetic Ministry
- They preach the Good News to the people and lead them closer to God. They preach
by their words and actions.
Pope-head of the Catholic Church and the highest leader of all Christians.

Bishop/Archbishop-who takes care of the Christians in a diocese/Archdiocese
Some other titles are given to bishops because of the responsibilities vested upon them. They are called
Cardinals or Archbishops. They govern bigger area of responsibilities as far as people are concerned.
Parish Priests
-are those in charge of a smaller scale of people and place. His area of responsibility is called a Parish.
B. Religious
- those faithful who bind themselves to Christ in a state of life consecrated to God by the profession of the
evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience
C. Deacon – is a seminarian who is about to become an ordained priest. He has no permanent work except to assist the
priests or the bishops in the liturgy of the word, distribute communion to the dying, and officiate at funerals

D. Lay Apostolate – is the ministry of the people of faithful founded in the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation
E. Parishioners-people of the Parish helping one another in achieving one’s goal
Lectors/Commentators- They are the readers who serve in the Holy Mass and other liturgical celebrations.
Catechists-Volunteers who are engaged in catechetical work like teaching the children in public schools, preparing
them to receive the Sacraments like First Communion.
Parish Choir- They lead the people in singing and praising God during Sunday Masses and other liturgical
Celebrations.
Lay Ministers/Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion/Altar Servers
-assist the priest in preparing the things used during the Holy Mass
