Units of Measurement and Force Vectors

Name: Score:
Section: Engr. ISIB

1. Wood has a density of 4.70 slug/ft3. What is its density expressed in SI units?

2. The pascal (Pa) is a very small unit of pressure. To show this, convert 1 Pa = 1 N/m2 to
lb/ft2. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is 14.7 lb/in2. How many pascals is this?

3. A rocket has a mass of 250(103) slugs on Earth. Specify (a) its mass in SI units, and (b) its
weight in SI units. If the rocket is on the moon, where the acceleration due to gravity is gm
= 5.30 ft/s2, determine (c) its weight in SI units, and (d) its mass in SI units.

4. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force FR = F1 + F2 and its direction, measured
counterclockwise from the positive x-axis.

5. If the magnitude of the resultant force is to be 500 N, directed along the positive y-axis,
determine the magnitude of force F and its direction θ.

7. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force and its direction, measured
counterclockwise from the positive x-axis.

8. If θ = 60° and F = 20 kN, determine the magnitude of the resultant force and its direction
measured clockwise from the positive x-axis.
