Concept of Master Plan


Lecture 2: Master Plan § Master plan may be defined as a general plan for the future layout of a city
showing both existing and proposed streets or roads, open spaces, public
buildings etc.
§ Master plan aims at controlling the future growth of a town along
preconceived and predetermined paths.
§ Master plan is prepared either for improvement of a old city or for a new
town to be developed.
§ Classical master plan aims at comprehensive development; Master plan
is an ideal plan showing full development of the town at some future date.
§ Master plan may be termed as landuse plan.
