Background Competition

Paper competition is a one of an International Energy Summit (IES) 2022 event that
challenges undergraduate student to apply their knowledge about oil and gas industry to
improve their capability to develop new research innovation as well as improve critical
thinking skills in analyzing issue related to petroleum industry also to solve petroleum
problem by providing innovative sustainable solution in the form of research paper.
Sub-Theme
As we know that the condition of the global oil and gas industry is declining due to
several things, including the pandemic situation we are currently facing and the policies of
the government to switch from using fossil energy to clean and renewable energy. Currently,
technological sophistication as a result of the current globalization cannot be avoided. Based
on that, the IES 2022 Paper Competition will bring a theme of “Inventive Technology as
Ways of Petroleum Industry to Acclimate in the Energy Transition Era”, which will be
specified into three subthemes, such as:
1. Utilizing Renewable Energy in Petroleum Industry
2. Minimizing Waste and Emissions in Petroleum Industry
3. Technology to Maximizing Production Rate of Fossil Energy
General Rules
1. IES 2022 Paper Competition is open for all undergraduate students.
2 Each team consists of a maximum of 3 (three) members from the same university.
3. Participants of Paper Competition are ineligible to compete in another competition IES
2022.
4. There will be two stages for IES 2022 Paper Competition. First stage is abstract selection,
the second one is full paper and presentation slide selection. Only 10 teams in total will be
chosen to go to presentation stage.
5. The competitions will be conducted online with the platforms submitted in the guidebook.
Paper submitted must relate to one or more of the sub themes mentioned above and must not
differ greatly from the abstract.
6. Paper and Poster must have never been published or won any competition before.
Any act of plagiarism leads to disqualification.
7. All entries and administration documents will become the property of IES 2022 Organizing
Committee and will not be returned.
8. Competition rules are subject to change. Any change will be announced before the
competition.
Participants should attend Technical Meeting before competition that will be notified later by
e-mail or IES 2022 official account.
9. Any act of plagiarism, fabrication, and other violations is strictly prohibited.
10. Failure to obey the rules, format, or late submission may receive deduction of points or
even disqualifications.
Preliminary Guidelines
1. Consist of 250-300 words of one paragraph summary
2. Abstract should be written in formal English
3. Abstract that is submitted should be formatted such as:
 Paper size: A4
  Font type: Times New Roman
 Font size: 14 pt for the paper’s title and 12pt for body text
 Line spacing: 1.15
 Margin: Left, Top, Bottom, Right = 2.54 cm
 Alignment: Justified
 Title of Paper
 Name, Department/Major, and email of the authors.
4. No university or institution's name and logo allowed.
5. Contents:
 Objectives and scope of proposed paper;
 Methods, procedures, and processes used;
 Results, observations, and conclusions;
 Novelty or additional information;
 Maximum 5 keywords.
6. Abstract File name format: "Paper_Abstract_Team Name_IES 2022".
7. Submitted in .pdf format to IES Paper Competition Abstract Submission Form *LINK* no
later than September 10th, 2022 at 11.59 PM (GMT+7).

9. Any late submission will get some penalties.
Full Paper Guidelines
1. Full paper should be written in formal English.
2. Paper must consist of a minimum of 1000 words, with as many diagrams and supporting
illustration or data tables necessary. The paper must not exceed 15 pages from the title to the
references, including pictures and diagrams.
3. University or Institution name and logo is not allowed on the full paper.
4. Full Paper that is submitted should written as follows:
 Paper size : A4 with portrait orientation
 Font type : Times New Roman
 Font size : 12 pt
 Line spacing : 1.15
 Margin : All margins 2.54 cm
 Alignment : Justify
5. Contents of Full Paper that is submitted should covers:
 Title of Paper;
 Abstract;
 Introduction;
 Theory and definitions;
 Equipment/methods and/or processes used;
 Data and Result;
 Conclusions;
 References;
 Attachment if any.
6. The full paper has to be in its final form and it can’t be edited or revised.
7. Full paper should be submitted in a .pdf format and sent to IES Paper Competition Full
Paper and Presentation Submission Form *LINK* no later than October 15 th, 2022 at 11.59
PM (GMT+7).
8. Full paper file name format should be “Paper_Full Paper_Team Name_IES 2022”.

Presentation Guidelines
1. The slides of presentation must be attached identities the author’s name, the author’s
university/institution, and the IES 2022 logo.
2. The slides of presentation consists of the summary of its paper.
3. The number of the slides is not exceeded.

5. Presentation slide file name format should be “Paper_Presentation_Team Name_IES
2022”.

for any team that submitted files late, they will get a penalty that is adjusted to how long the
delay is:

Equipment Requirements
1. All participants should make an abstract.
2. The top 10 finalists that has been announced should make a full paper and presentation.
3. The top 10 finalists requires electronic devices such as: tablet/laptop/computer and
microphone tools such as: headphone, earphone, or earbuds.
4. The top 10 finalists are also requires a good internet connection and sufficient device
battery during the presentation.
5. For external assistance during the presentation will not be allowed.

The systematic mechanisms of the IES AAPG UGM 2022 Essay Competition registration
are:
The registration will be opened from 17th July - 17th August 2022 and 18th - 31st August
2022
Every team is obligated to pay the registration fee of IDR 75.000,00/team to the following

Every competition participant is obligated to upload the twibbon that has been provided by
the committee on the each competition participant’s Instagram account, and tag
@iesaapgugmsc,@aapgugmsc, your other 3 colleagues, and make sure your Instagram
account is not locked.
Every team is obligated to do registration by uploading the required documents for the IES
AAPG 2022 essay competition participant on www............ there are the documents that must
be uploaded as the requirements for essay competition, such as:
Scanned college student ID cards (Undergraduate/Diploma Students) or scanned student ID
cards (Highschool/Vocational Highschool Students) for all of the member of the teams that
are still valid

The requirements from a-d must be merged in one file with .PDF file format. The file naming
format is Registration Document_Team Name_Institution with the 10 MB maximum size of
file.
After the payment and registration process is finished, every team is obligated to do a

Every participant is obligated to finish the registration and payment process that has been
determined by the committee. If there will be any violation during the registration and
payment process, the committee has the rights to give a point reduction or disqualification.
