Clair de lune- Clair de lune’, meaning moonlight, was written by the Impressionist

French composer Claude Debussy. Here’s everything you need to know about this
piano masterpiece.”
It is based on the poem of the same name by Symbolist poet Paul Verlaine. We are
taken through a journey to introspection – the lifetime adventure of understanding
the soul in all its phases.
Think of relaxing piano music, and Debussy’s gorgeous ‘Clair de lune’ probably
comes to mind. It’s the third, and most famous, movement from Suite bergamasque
(a prominent example of style), He started writing the incredibly romantic piano piece
in 1890 when he was just 28, but it wasn’t published for another 15 years! So, after
15 years, he ultimately finished in the year 1905. So, the story goes, Debussy didn’t
originally want these early pieces made public, but eventually accepted a publisher’s
offer – and thank goodness he did. Moreover, Debussy’s piano miniature featured in
the phenomenally popular Twilight films.
Is it hard to play? Debussy’s ‘Clair de lune’ is written for solo piano – and it is
actually quite straight-forward. If you can play piano up to about Grade 6 standard
you should be able to have a go at it.

During the latter part of his life Debussy created an alter ego, “Monsieur Croche,” with whom he
carried on imaginary conversations on the nature of art and music.
