The Last Sherlock Holmes Story

Dr Watson died in 1926 and left behind a locked box, which must not be opened for fifty years. In
1976 the box was opened and it contained a packet of papers with a horrible story. This story is
maybe true or maybe a lie.

The story was the following. Three women were killed with a knife at a night in Whitechapel. The
police couldn’t find the killer, so they asked Holmes for help. Holmes found out that the women were
not killed for money or for love. But he didn’t know the real reason. Holmes, Watson and the police
waited for Jack the Ripper in Whitechapel. He was there, but he couldn’t kill anyone that night
because of the police. Holmes and Watson followed him for a while, but they lost him.

One day Watson and Holmes were at home, when Holmes suddenly stood up and started to run. He
asked Watson to follow him. They ran in circles in the city and they saw that somebody was following
them. He was Moriarty, whose nickname was Jack the Ripper. They looked out of the window and
they saw Moriarty sitting in the opposite house. Holmes realised that Moriarty was a serial killer who
wanted to keep in fear the city and he also wanted to kill Holmes. Moriarty killed on planned days, so
the detectives could prepare for the next murder.

The detectives went to Whitechapel to catch Moriarty. Holmes knew the exact place where Moriarty
would kill again. Holmes noticed Moriarty and followed him but there was a strange man following
Holmes as well. Holmes asked Watson to warn the police, but Watson decided to follow Holmes
secretly. Finally, Holmes lost Moriarty and then he dressed in expensive clothes and met a drunk
woman. They went to a room and talked. Watson watched them from the window but he suddenly
fell asleep. When he woke up, the room was full of blood. The drunk woman was dead. Holmes was
cutting up the dead body. He didn’t know what happened or what to do.

The next day Watson found a telegram from Holmes that said: ‘M has escaped us. He is trying to
leave the country but I am following him.’ The police informed Watson that the dead woman was
pregnant. The police had already stopped Moriarty from killing, therefore he had to kill twice. Few
days later Watson found another telegram that said: ‘M is dead. Returning Saturday. Holmes.’
Watson was very confused about his best friend. He wrote a letter to him in which he informed him
about his marriage. Later Holmes and Watson met again. Holmes told Watson that he was wrong,
Moriarty was alive and wanted to kill him.

A few weeks later another woman was killed in Whitechapel. Watson decided to search for evidence
about Holmes. He went to the house where they saw Moriarty. In the bathroom he found the body
pieces of the dead women. Watson was shocked and he went to Holmes’ house. Holmes was very
scared, because he thought Moriarty came to kill him. Watson and Holmes decided to travel to
Reichenbach Falls. By the waterfall Watson suddenly pulled out his gun and tried to kill Holmes but
he did not manage to do it because Holmes took out the bullets. Holmes took his knife and he
accused Watson of being Moriarty. Watson was able to convince him that he was not Moriarty. In
the end Holmes slowly put down the knife, stepped backwards off the path and jumped into the
depth.

My favourite character is Dr Watson. He was all the time on the good side and he wasn’t addicted to
drugs. It was a little bit weird that Watson didn’t warn the police about Holmes, but it is
understandable, because they were best friends. He didn’t neglect his wife. He should have discussed
the events of the night when he saw Holmes cutting up the body at least with Holmes.

I really liked this book. The story was very exciting and the ending was very surprising. I think this
story is a lie, because there was some very surreal happenings, but if this story is true, I think
Moriarty never existed and Holmes was just crazy and addicted to drugs and bored, so he invented
Moriarty. In my opinion, Holmes was the murderer. Maybe he killed himself, because he regretted
the things that he had done.
