Season 1

The mistress of secretes knows the truth about

Following the Red Queen's shocking twist,

Xenia's plan for you lays in shambles. And the
arrival of a challenger from your past only

will Xenia's fraught history repeat itself?

Relationships

Ruelle

Princess Ruelle of the Autumn is one of Xenia's

spies. She drives Xenia's carriage, and acts as a
bodyguard for MC. She has the ability to become
invisible, easily disappearing in the shadows.
She shows great loyalty to Xenia, who has been
training her for a some time. Xenia's late
husband Valerian was Ruelle's uncle, making
Xenia her aunt through marriage. Ruelle has
idolized Xenia ever since she was a child, first
meeting when Xenia married Valerian. Ruelle
knew then that she wanted to be like Xenia
when she grew up. After Xenia left her mourning
period for Valerian and became Spy Mistress, the
approximately 12 year old Ruelle wanted to help.
She has been Xenia's assistant ever since.

Valerian

Xenia married Val about fifteen years ago,

despite him being perceived as above her
station. Rumors surrounding his death vary, but
all agree that she killed him. The popular theory
seems to be that she married him for his wealth
and status, then murdered him, leaving no
evidence to implicate herself. She then inherited
his fortune. When confronted by MC about these
rumors, Xenia barely reacts but to shut down
the conversation, but MC notices that she
seems more hurt than angry. When MC is
poisoned, Gideon o!ers resurrection as a
potential option, which Xenia refuses. This leads
Gideon to express sympathy for something
terrible she and Valerian su!ered. Later, Xenia
mentions that she did something selfish to
Valerian, and killing him was the greatest mercy
should could o!er. Since his death, she has felt
finding beauty in anything wrong, for there was
"no purpose for beauty in a world where [she]
could not share it with him."

Danilo

Magus Danilo is a Priest of the Autumn Temple.

He shows open hostility to Xenia, and warns MC
to avoid her. He claims that she is a scheming,
untrustworthy murderer, having killed the last
person who got too close to her. He is her late
husband Val's brother, and has hated Xenia
since his death, about twelve years ago. Danilo
uses his magic to send reanimated wolf corpses
to attack MC, but she is saved by Xenia. When
asked why he would do such a thing, Xenia
explains that Danilo's hatred for her outweighs
his compassion for innocents. Danilo eventually
comes to realize that Xenia was not responsible
for his brother's death.

Galen

Galen is an informant for Xenia, giving her

valuable information in exchange for payment
on occasion.

Gideon

Gideon and Xenia trade knowledge of alchemy

and he creates eye drops for her, as her eyes are
not designed for constant exposure to sunlight.
Gideon seems to known more about Xenia and
Valerian that others, and o!ers her sympathy.

Tansy Wintergreen

When Tansy somehow falsely proves herself the

heir to the throne, Xenia's reputation as
spymaster is further damaged after MC's failed
public attempt to prove the same. After her
coronation, Tansy asks Xenia to her work for her,
specifically. She is angry when Xenia refuses.
Later, she demands that Xenia and MC publicly
kneel to her, which Xenia talks her way out of.
Tansy is also conspiring to kill Queen Safir. After
killing Lady Vo, Tansy demands Xenia work for
her again, which Xenia then decides to play
along with.

Lady Vo

Lady Vo was Tansy's adviser, though expressed

doubts as to Tansy's legitimacy. Despite disliking
Xenia, she agreed to ally with her to bring the
truth of Tansy's false claims to light. She was
then poisoned by Tansy, dying before anyone
could have given her an antidote.

Myrine

Myrine is a fellow Sivi from Petralone. She was

once Xenia's mentor, and Xenia learned about
resurrection from her. Myrine was attempting to
revive her late wife, but ultimately did not
succeed. Myrine died at some point after Xenia
returned to Altadellys after Val's death. Xenia
never received news of this. Myrine's body was
later possessed by an enemy of the royal family.

Trivia

Nothing scares her. (Except mice!)

She loves how the stars shine in the dark.
She enjoys when people fear her.
She's a trendsetter without even trying.
She's very meticulous when it comes to her

Xenia is a member of the Lysende Council.
Xenia is not a mage, but does practice some
magic.
Xenia keeps pet spiders in terrariums in her
room. Their names are Alecto, Ophelos,
Desma, Agape, Milo, Calla, and Tychon. She
has had Alecto the longest.
Xenia’s hairpins are coated in a rare
venom.[2]
Xenia loves the garden in the Spring
Quarter.
Understanding the various properties of
plants is a specialty of Xenia's people.
One of Xenia's spiders makes a highly
coveted and priceless silk.[3]
Xenia's homeland, the land of the Sivi, is
Petralone.
