1.0 SCOPE
1.1. The requirements of this procedure apply to personnel performing Short Range UT
(SR UT) while in the employ of Axis Inspection Ltd.

 The Short-Range (Guided Wave) ultrasonic inspection method is applied

annular plates of the storage tank.
 Floor plates of the storage tank
 Inaccessible pipe location like under saddle, supports

1.2. Allows for inspection of normally inaccessible areas of tanks, vessels and piping. It
is designed to inspect the plate at distances up to three to four feet from the side of
the tank

2.0 Purpose:
The purpose of this procedure is to carrying out of oil and gas pipelines, pressure vessels
and above ground storage tanks.

5.0 PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION

Personnel performing and /or evaluating the SRUT examination shall be qualified and
certified to at least Level-II in SRUT in accordance with AIC-CERT-100,Axis Inspection
Ltd Procedure for the Qualification and certification of NDT Personnel which confirm to
the requirement of ANSI/ASNT CP-189.

6.0 EQUIPMENT
Sonotron NDT UT Instrument type ISONIC 2005 uniquely combines functionality and
mobility of high performance portable digital ultrasonic flaw detector with recording,
imaging, and data processing capabilities of smart computerized inspection ISONIC 2005.

Electronic instrumentation which used shall be calibrated at least once a year or when it is
apparent that the equipment is malfunctioning or damaged.

8.0 Data Presentation

The plate wave is reflected from both soil-side and product-side defects in the annular
plate and from the time of flight of the signal and its amplitude, the position and
morphology of the defects can be displayed in ultrasonic A, B and C-Scans. The B and
C scans are developed using a linear scan along the chime area with the distance logged
as a function of time or distance encoder. This accommodates a simple linear scan as
well as probe swivelling and full ultrasonic waveform recording.

.
9.0 Inspection Procedures :
Datum points to be taken from between anchors, as SRUT scan from anchor 1 to
anchor 2 , giving the start point and direction of measurement. All measurements are
to be in metric units. Scanning direction of the tank is clockwise.
The maximum scanning speed shall be such 6" per second or 150 mm per second.
Scans shall be encoded. Where the data is collected in two or more scans there shall be
an overlap of at least 25 mm to ensure 100% coverage. If any additional scans are
required they shall be performed in the same manner.

Scan the probe at a uniformed pace along the section to be inspected for the required
distance scan length plus the additional 25 mm overlap. Areas providing poor quality data
shall be rescanned and investigated. All data shall be stored onto the computer hard
drive.

10.0 Results, Presentation and Interpretation

All processed and unprocessed data shall be stored on a recordable CDR or DVD for
archiving purposes.

11.0 Evaluation Criteria

A DAC curve was designed using on a 6mm thick calibration plate based with ¼” flat
holes at 50% depth at different distances.DAC drawn based on ASME V Article-4.The
echo height correlates with the depth. The evaluation of the indications is rated as
Follow:
Minor: Less than 25% wall loss Moderated:
Between 25% to 50% wall loss High:
Higher that 50% wall loss
