Many Citizens were busy with their personal life and family. Around 11:56 am it happened, there were buildings breaking, People running for their life, People dying. The earthquake on that day was truly a traumatic experience for all civilians. The Earthquake left many buildings like the Dharahara in Shambles.
As the Earthquake happened many people were enjoying or dealing with
life. Suddenly around 11: 56 am the Earthquake hit Nepal. First, what is an earthquake? The Collison of 2 tectonic plates causes vibrations which is known as earthquake. Our country Nepal lies between the Indo- Australian plate and Eurasian plate. The Collison of the following tectonic plates caused terror and destruction across the country with a magnitude of 7.8. The earthquake destroyed many buildings, centers, World heritage sites etc. One of the buildings to suffer destruction from the earthquake is the Dharahara. The Dharahara is a 72-meter-tall historical landmark located in Sundhara, Nepal. This Historical landmark was built by former prime minister Bhimsen Thapa under the commission of Queen Lalit Tripurasundari. This landmark has been damaged and re-constructed several times in the past. Here is a picture. The picture given above was taken in 1990. The Dharahara is 9 stories Tall. After the destruction of the Landmark. The reconstruction of the
building was declared around October, 2019 by Prime minister Kp Oli. The Official reconstruction started in December 2019 after the Prime minister laid the foundation stone. The total expenditure for the reconstruction is estimated to be 3.48 billion Rs. After the reconstruction of the Historical landmark was completed, it was Inaugurated on April 24th 2019. Here is a given picture of the newly constructed Dharahara standing at 71.9 meters tall. In conclusion, no matter how many times the proud Dharahara fell, it always stood back up with pride.
