Activity 4B: Coordinate Geometry

Analyze each problem and answer what is asked.

1. ABCD has vertices A(–4, –1), B(–2, 3), C(3, 3), and D(5, –1) on the Cartesian
plane.
a. Verify that ABCD is a trapezoid.
b. Determine whether ABCD is an isosceles trapezoid.
2. For each quadrilateral with the given vertices, verify that the quadrilateral is
a trapezoid and determine whether the figure is an isosceles trapezoid or not.
a. A(–2, 5), B(–3, 1), C(6, 1), D(3, 5)
b. J(–4, –6), K(6, 2), L(1, 3), M(–4, –1)
c. Q(2, 5), R(–2, 1), S(–1, –6), T(9, 4)
d. W(–5, –1), X(–2, 2), Y(3, 1), Z(5, –3)
3. Refer to quadrilateral ABCD below.

a. Determine whether the figure is a trapezoid. If so, is it isosceles?

Explain.
b. Is the midsegment contained in the line with equation 𝑦 = −𝑥 + 1?
Justify your answer.
