Glossary of Terms

Conflict of Interest
A Conflict of Interest on a professional experience placement is any situation where there could be over-
familiarity, perceived or active bias or favouritism, towards a Pre-Service Teacher undertaking their
professional experience. You are not permitted to undertake a professional experience placement in a school
where you have any immediate family. If you have children, you cannot undertake a placement at the School
or Centre your child attends. You also cannot complete a placement where you are employed in a casual, part-
time, full-time, or after school care capacity or where you have attended the School as a student in the last five
(5) years.

The University’s Code of Conduct includes requirements to declare any conflicts of interest. You must declare
these before the placement commences. Where a Pre-Service Teacher is granted permission to teach at a
School/Centre where their spouse or children attend, you cannot teach, work with or supervise any of these
family members under any circumstance.

Special Consideration
You should complete this section if you need to advise the Placement Office of extenuating circumstances or
special needs which may need to be taken into account when making professional placement allocations ie: an
Education Inclusion Plan (EIP) that impacts on placement. This comment space can also be utilised to inform us
of any other considerations you might like to note, ie: secondary addresses that could be considered for
placement proximity (grandparents home etc.)
