TO BE A GLOBALLY CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL

The pinnacle of one’s career is to be recognised as a professional. To be awarded the title of

“professional” or “chartered” by an esteem or recognised body, is the ultimate recognition of
excellence in one’s profession. A professional will then be referred to, or consulted as an expert
in their particular industry or profession. The title is a testimony that the person is a competent
and capable person, in their profession. It testifies that the person has the necessary knowledge,
appropriate skills, the right attitude as well as be able to communicate and lead effectively. The
title in other words is the benchmark to gauge the value of a person’s ability to the organisation
or industry. The wider the recognition is geographically, the higher is its value and significance.
In other words, if we get the status from an internationally accepted body, we are then able to
benchmark our professional standards, as best amongst the best, globally.

As the workforce trends shift, there comes a pressure in staying relevant in the skills and
knowledge was taught earlier. The chance to move up the ranks is yours to take - but you must
set the goals for your career development plan and hold yourself accountable to it. Despite the
current economic situation creating multiple challenges, always dream and shoot higher than
you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors.
Try to be better than yourself. Success comes from the inside out. In order to change what is
on the outside, you must first change what is in the inside, i.e. change and improve yourself.
By being a professional engineer, you will have the access to the latest trends and technologies
that will be relevant in your career. The key of global knowledge is made easily available to
internationally certified professional engineers keeping them abreast to changes in the
profession.

“An investment in self-development pays the highest dividends. There is no more profitable
investment than investing in yourself. It is the best investment you can make; you can never
go wrong with it. Successful people do not earn more, then invest. They invest so they can
earn more.”

The program is aimed for engineers, managers, either in civilian or military service,
academician and researchers in technical or engineering field, with basic engineering or
technical degree, with at least five years of working experience, wishing to excel in their career.
The award will be the recognised professional engineer status of Chartered Engineer (CEng),
from the internationally acclaimed, Engineering Council (EC) of UK, with a history of over
200 years. By having the post-nominals, CEng, the participants will then be able to register
with through Route B, of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), for the PEng (Ir.), by just
sitting for the “open-book” test for ethics, without even needing a technical report writeup, or
interviews.

With the CEng, the participants can also register as Eur Ing from European Federation of
National Engineering Associations (FEANI), or any other local professional engineer status
from other approved bodies, without even attending an interview. The participants will then
also be able to go through another fast track program to even expand beyond the engineering
field, by getting the acclaimed Chartered Manager (CMgr) status from the Chartered
Management Institute (CMI) UK.

The program which consist of a facilitator led workshop/mentoring session, in physical or

virtual mode, followed by continuous guidance and mentoring for its participants. Participants
will be able to understand the holistic characteristics and competencies needed as an
internationally acclaimed professional engineer, to develop and complete the submission
documents for the appropriate learned institutions as well as anticipate the professional review
interview process, which will form, part of the assessment of a professional engineer. The aim
is to enable participants to get the status of CEng, rapidly.

The session will be in a relaxed manner and all the notes and tools, will only be in soft copy
format. Participants will continuously be guided to perform well, in the submission and the
interview for a successful outcome. The tools that we are using will be based on the template
for the professional report, which will be given to participants to fill up and developed. From
there, participants will be able to complete their submission or use it to register to any other
engineering bodies in the world. They will also be provided with samples from successful
participants. The same tool is used, for the Professional Review Interview. The program is to
satisfy the UK Specifications for Professional Engineer (UK-SPEC) Edition 4.0. It focuses on
delivering all the techniques for participants to be able to complete
their registration submission and also passed the interview process.

If by any reason they are unable to do well in the process, they can
either opt to be initially registered as an Incorporated Engineer
(IEng), and later, when they satisfies the required competencies,
upgrade to the CEng status, or they can re-submit, or even change
to another institution to get the CEng status. We will still guide the

participant, until they are successful. It is a journey, and the journey will be different for
different individuals, but rest assured that we will be with the participants, every step of the
way, until they get the professional status.

With the correct, structured and proven method of guidance, the candidate can achieve the
CEng status faster and easier. Our one-to-one personalised approach, has been very successful
in assisting a lot of academicians, managers and engineers to gain their professional engineer
status. By being on this journey of excellence, is already a reward for the participants, as they
will be exposed to the holistic characteristics of a professional. The road to success comes

“Becoming a chartered engineer is one of greatest achievements in my life and being

recognised internationally, makes me to be more confidant with my experience and
knowledge . Since I started the program, I have felt the difference in organising my
experiences and knowing my achievements on a personal level. I strongly encourage all
engineers or academicians to be professionally registered.”
Mohammed Al Darmaki CEng MIET

It is such an absolute honour being awarded as Chartered Engineer by the esteemed

Engineering Council. Walking the path of engineering is not easy at all. The lonely nights
at power plants as a mechanical engineer located in a foreign country far away from
home, remain fresh in my mind. Now, it's like a dream come true for me and my family,
and I know this is only the beginning of a long journey of building a greater future. The
more I live my life as an engineer the more I come to realise technology is forever
changing. I cannot predict what is the world going to be like in 50 years from now, but
with the engineering knowledge and skills I gained particularly in the industry of power
generation industry, I will continue to spread positivity, innovate and share my
knowledge with other fellow engineers especially the juniors hoping to build a strong
convergence encouraging them to strive to be an internationally recognised Chartered
Engineer, to make an impact to mankind. As a mentor, I’m grateful for being guided
through the procedure, leading to this accomplishment. “
Kok Wei Cheah CEng MIET

“Becoming a Chartered Engineer, is really expressive, has it displays that, I have

accomplished a benchmarked level of competence predominantly, as UK engineering
standards are recognised globally. I would encourage engineers or academicians to be
Professionally Registered, as it will show your commitment in maintaining and enhancing the
knowledge, skills and competence, required to meet the engineering and technological needs
in today’s industry.”
Selvakumar Sithambaram CEng CMgr MIET MCMI

“Personally, becoming a Chartered Engineer is a new journey in my engineering career.

Because as an engineer, I have set a standard and benchmark for my career. CEng will
open another path, which I believe is bigger and better. It is not always about getting the
title, but the most important thing is the process of getting it. From this process, I have
learned so many valuable lessons and improved my work and lifestyle. I would like to
encourage all local engineers to register as a Chartered Engineer, because we do not know
what the future holds. Few years from now, when the economy in Malaysia is getting

better and stronger, the opportunity is there for us to grab. Professional Engineers are
needed to improve our country. International companies and local companies will select
and search for a competent person as their engineer, and that is why we need to be well
prepared. Not only that, CEng is well recognised all around the globe, we can expand our
career internationally and learn other countries' technology. There is nothing easy. But I
am lucky because I have a person, that guides me to register as a professional. The
platform is there. It was well structured and easy to understand. But like I always said,
you will miss every shot that you never take. Do not be afraid to fail, it makes you
stronger.”
Ts. Rollando Chong CEng MIET MBoT

“Becoming a chartered engineer signifies another milestone in my journey, to contribute to

the betterment of society, industry, and academia. The recognition provides a stepping stone
for my voice to be heard. It becomes a bridge to existing gaps between those in universities,
and those who are practicing engineering in industries. Chartership provides an engagement
platform, and I would encourage local engineers whether in academia or industries to hop
onto this platform for engagement, collaboration, and ultimately contribution to the society at
large.”
Radin Zaid Radin Umar CEng C.ErgHF MIMechE MErgHF

I believe being a Chartered Engineer is a self-testament to our professional practice in the

engineering field. It is important for all practicing engineers and engineering
academicians to pursue and attain their Chartered Engineer status to motivate us further in
the engineering field and to enhance our competencies in addressing all
the qualities required to be a professional engineer. Attaining this status provides
international recognition of our endeavours in implementing a sustainable future for the
next generation.
Ts. Kanendra Naidu CEng MIET MBoT

“I would say that becoming a CEng will give me a broad and lots of opportunities, to spread
out my knowledge and engineering activities, to the community and society. This is the right
platform for me to share with the world the experiences, in engaging with engineering
projects, that bring me up to the international standard of practice. With that, I would like to
encourage all engineers, particularly in Malaysia to register as CEng, so that what we can do
is, “to speak at the same voice, to walk on the same path.”
Saifulza Bin Alwi @ Suhaimi CEng MIET

“Getting CEng means we are recognised internationally with regards to our engineering
professionalism and capability. It also opens a world of opportunities of getting overseas jobs
that pays very well. Locally, it empowers you to give accreditation or approval authority for
other people’s works.”
Ir. Ts. Fazarizul Hashidi CEng MIET MIEM MBoT MCIHT

“Chartered Engineer status is a chance for me to contribute more to engineering and society. I
would encourage other dedicated engineers with passion in their career to achieve the
internationally recognized and prestigious status, in order for them to continuously upgrade
themselves for future journeys”

“As for myself, throughout this process, I've been able to look back into all the works that I
have done, re-evaluate them with fresh perspectives, and reframe my contributions to the
engineering profession and to the society. Along the way, it has helped me gain greater
appreciation towards my own works and allowed me to identify my professional qualities,
some of which weren't so crystal clear before my eyes. Having real and honest appreciation
towards your own selves and works is important as a strong support for you to continuously
be motivated to serve the community of which you are in. All in all, I see that the title is just
something that comes along with the recognition, but the real values are in the confidence
that your peers have upon your capabilities and potential to contribute professionally, the
global network of engineering communities that you are a part of to support your growth, and
the responsibilities that have been entrusted upon you to serve the society in the best way
possible.”
Ahmad Zulfaa Mohamed Kassim CEng MIET

“I want to express how much of an impact becoming a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) has
had on my professional life. It symbolises my dedication to excellence, integrity, and
lifelong learning for 18 years. By attaining this prestigious title, we become part of a
community of experts, competence leaders, and problem solvers; and by striving for
Chartered Engineer status, we elevate the recognition of local engineers internationally. I
believe, we can make a real difference, shape the future, and inspire the next generation.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to the guidance and mentoring by A1. Remember, that self-
transformation is the first step towards becoming an internationally recognised
professional engineer and shaping the future.”
Mariam Md Ghazaly CEng MIET

“It is my honour to be registered as a Charted Engineer at UK Engineering Council. I am

proud to become a global recognised professional engineer. I believe I can explore further in
any corner of the world and excel better with the support of UK Engineering Council and the
Institution of Engineering and Technology. I encourage ‘ANAK MALAYSIA’ to steer their
engineering life development according to UK SPEC. Strive yourself for better knowledge
and intense experience, prove yourself that you can honour the title of Chartered Engineer.
Finally, let us contribute to the country and society to build a better generation for our nation.

“When I started my first job as a Graduate Engineer, which involved rotations to three
different business units, I lamented my "bad luck" as some of the work that I had to do, was
not related at all to what I studied during my degree. Why on earth did I have to review civil
drawings when I studied Electrical and Electronics for four years? Later as I move along in
my career, I realised that, it is what being an engineer is all about. There are always new
problems that need to be solved, and how a problem is being solved tomorrow, may not be
the same as how it is solved yesterday. I consider myself as although I have now ventured
into procurement and supply chain, I am always connected to engineering as my day-to-day
tasks and that motivated me to etch my status, as a professional engineer by becoming a
Chartered Engineer. Having been a student member of the IET, and eventually a Member of
the IET (MIET), I decided to apply for CEng through IET. I always thought the CEng
application requirement to be very daunting, but thankfully the guidelines from A1, has been
very easy to follow and made the whole process to become very structured. Alhamdulillah,
after one year (I procrastinated a lot!), I managed to submit my application, and was invited
for Professional Review Interview a few months after that. Again, completing a mock PRI
withA1, really put me at ease for the real PRI, and all in all, it turned out to be a very
enjoyable experience. My main interviewer was an ex-British Royal Air Force General who
served in World War 2, so you can just imagine all the fascinating stories that he shared
during the interview . For all engineers aspiring to become a Chartered Engineer, I whole-
heartedly encourage you to do it now as there are so many things that you can learn about
yourself as you go through the process."

“I am truly happy and proud of myself for being awarded the status CEng from Engineering

and Engineering Council because it would raise the bench mark and profession as a respected
profession in Malaysia.”

“To be in engineering is optional. When you become engineer, to be professional is actually

compulsory. The world needs us to ensure the sustainability of the world. So, we also need to
continuously improve ourselves aligned to the advancement of the technology. Being

behaviour and talk the same language. Let's be a professional engineer.”

“Gaining professional registration as a CEng is recognition of my engineering achievement

and demonstrated my dedication and commitment to the engineering profession. With the
status also, it is a chance for me, to contribute more to engineering and society. As my
position is very close to the young engineers, I would encourage them to join any engineering
institution and motivate them towards professional registration with the Engineering Council,
hence continuously upgrading themselves for future journeys.”

Mohd Faruq Abdul Latif CEng MIMechE

"It has been a long and meaningful journey to me. In the beginning of my journey, I have no
idea how to start and how to apply as a chartered engineer. With fast track to chartered

Getting chartered is a great confidence boost, respected by colleagues and has credibility
within the industry.”

“Being a professional engineer is very important because it benefits me personally and can
help organizations to achieve the accreditation. It is also a recognition of my engineering
practices and experiences that have greatly impacted to society.”
Ir. Mohd Asri Yusuff CEng MIET MIEM

“First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude by saying thank you for all your
help in guiding me obtaining my CEng. The experience I have gained while preparing my
paper for CEng registration was challenging and fun at the same time. But all of it is worth it
once I received a letter from IET saying that I have passed the Chartered Engineer
registration. To be working in the underdog industry such as Palm Oil Mill, I can hardly see
any engineer in the same field that has obtained a CEng certificate. Therefore, to seek
guidance from more experienced people in this field is almost impossible but with much
dedication and focus along with the help of Tn. Mazlee, I was able to do it. Nothing is
impossible if you put your effort and time in something that you put your mind into it. I
would like to encourage all engineers out there to start thinking and working your way in
obtaining the CEng especially engineers in the same field as mine so that we can create a
healthy community with competent CEng that can help bring this industry into the future. To
be called a professional engineer means that people look up to you therefore it helps me to
push myself harder in widening my engineering knowledge."
Ir. Ts Mohd Afif Mohd Aini CEng MIET MIEM MBoT

“As an engineer, I believe that we should associate ourselves with any professional body or
institution be it either local or international. This is one of the ways for us to enhance the
overall status of our profession. I would encourage any potential engineers to find out the
requirements, as soon as they have been involve and given the responsibilities that they have
had. These can be used as evidence when they put in their application. The support from a
good mentor is hugely beneficial and for me, I will not be able to sail this journey smoothly
without the support of my mentor and superior. As a professional/chartered engineers, we
must honour the recognition. Gaining a professional title establishes a person's proven
knowledge, understanding, and competence to a set standard and demonstrates their
commitment to developing and enhancing his/her competence to engineer a better world.

“Many engineering graduates would always like to be recognized as a Professional engineer

while for experienced engineers who have been working for quite long in their career then
becoming Professional Chartered Engineer is even more special. When you become a
Chartered Engineer, it demonstrates to your employers and clients that you have had your
competence independently assessed, your credential verified, and have made a commitment
to Continues Professional Development. I really encourage all the engineers/academicians in
Malaysia should try to become a registered professional. The process are simple and with
proper guidance , you should be able to achieve your excellence journey. You are what you
