MDG 3: PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN

What is gender equality?

 Gender equality means equal representation of men and women. It implies that all gender
should have equal value and treatment.
 Equal gender treatment empowers women and other groups creating opportunities in
education, work, finances, and other aspects which improves the economy and lessen the
effects of financial crisis.

What is women empowerment?

 Women empowerment is the process by which women strengthens their capacity to individually
and collectively to identify, understand and overcome gender discrimination, thus ensure equal
right to women and enhance confidence in them to claim their rights.

Next, moving on to the next Millenium Development Goals #3, which is to Promote gender equality and
empower women. So, we all know that ang MDG, ang inaaddress nila is global challenges like kagaya
nga ng to reduce poverty, hunger, reduce the lack of adequate shelter at the same time they promote
gender equality, health, education and environmental sustainability. Basically, ang ultimate goal nila was
to improve lives of people worldwide, particularly mga developing countries, and with that ine-aim din
nil ana maka create ng mas more fair and just, and at the same time sustainable na environment for
everyone.

And with that, itong MDG number 3, isa siya sa mga prinopromote nila. Now, before siya itackle ng mas
maayos, but first, let us know the definition of both yong gender equality and empower women.
(GENDER EQUALUITY) So, if we are going to translate it in Filipino, we all know that gender equality ay
ang pantay na pag tingin sa kasarian ng iba, or ang pantay na pag tingin sa iba’t ibang kasarian. Equal
opportunities, equal treatment, equal rights, freedom, dignity and respect. Before, malaking issue siya
sa buong mundo, but as the time goes by, it is slowly becom accepted na rin by many.

(EQUAL TREATMENT) Alam niyo ba guys ang gender equality prevents violence against women and it is
very essential for economic prosperity. Bakit? Kasi according to my research daw po, society that values
women and men EQUALLY will have safer and healthier society or environment. Ibig sabihin, gender
equality is not only a fundamental human right but also kapag inaaddress natin ang gender inequalities
and prinopromote natin ang women empowerment, we contribute to the creatness of safer and mas
more prosperous future for all.

--- In simple words, if we continue providing or doing equal treatment an value to anyone, and hindi
natin sila tinetreat as different, edi mas nakakabuo tayo ng much more better place for us to live in ---

(WOMEN EMPOWERMENT) Dito, ayan naman na rin ang definition. DIto is about scknowledging the
strength and the power that women have. Again, related to gender equality, hindi dapat inaaunder
estimate natin yong capabilities ng mga babae, na hindi ibig sabihin porket babae ako, my capabilities
and strength are limited, no, may boses din tayo. May boses na tayo. Women empowerment is about
enabiling women to fully participate in and contribute to their societies’ social, economic, and political
development.

SUMMARY

So to combine and sum up those, MDG 3 is about making sure that women and girls have the same
opportunities as men and boys. Usually, just like I’ve said, women tend to be underestimated, but this
MD 3 is about giving women the chance to go to school, have say in decisions that affect them. Basically,
it is about treating women and girls fairly and giving them the same rights and opportunities as men and
boys.
