My College Entrance Exam Experience

USTET & LeapMed

The first entrance examination I took was USTET & LeapMed. This is something that I prepared for
months. I mostly focused on reviewing for LeapMed since it was my dream program and UST is my
dream school. I took the exam last October 23, 2022. I woke up very early because I was coming from
Laguna and my testing center is located in UST Manila. I arrived on time but had to wait for an hour
before the exam started. It was going well with the first exam which was Mental Ability, not until the
next exams came up which were English, math, and science. As an USTET taker, I can confirm that it
really is stem-centered and mostly UST curriculum based. There were lots of topics that we did not
discuss. I am a STEM-SCIENCE student by the way in Adamson University. I did not have a lot of
time to finish the english subtest and I had like 20 questions left to answer with only 5 minutes
remaining. Time goes by so fast in entrance exams. I just decided to shade for B & D for no reason.
For mathematics, I could not even explain how hard it was but I only solved the first questions and
was sure of my computations. After that, I literally guessed the last 58 items and shade whatever came
to mine. The last exam was science and it was going well because we just finished our lesson on
certain topics. It was hard though because it focuses more on situational questions rather than
concepts. The exam lasted for I think 4 hours at least. We had our lunch break for 2 hours before the
LeapMed Exam which consisted of 6 subtests (anatomy, physiology, chemistry, botany, zoology, and
physics). By this time, I already said “Bahala na” because of my performance in the USTET itself. I
did not feel pressured anymore and just answered what I could answer. Yes I prepared for months for
LeapMed but it was the hardest exam I ever took. Some concepts were familiar but only ¼ of what I
studied showed up in the exam. I went home tired and relieved knowing na tapos na and I could rest.

Btw, leapmed results were released early as well last January 26, 2023. I did not pass and it’s okay!
Siguro hindi lang para saakin ang LeapMed. Though I cried that night, after all that, my friends,
families, and teachers gave me a congratulatory hug and heartwarming messages because of trying
and doing my best. I’m now praying that I would get in at least BS Physical Therapy which is my
priority program for UST.

DCAT

DCAT was the second entrance exam I took and I did not prepare much for this so I do not know what
to expect. I applied for BS Human Biology which is their accelerated medical program. I left our
dorm at around 7am and my exam was at 8am (our dorm is literally katapat lang ang La Salle). During
the DCAT I was very relaxed and chill and was not even shocked that there are 7 subtests kasi hiwalay
ang mathematics sa statistics and hiwalay din ang english sa reading comprehension, I mean 7
subtests who? I took 10 tests nung USTET & LeapMed from 7am to 6pm HAHAHAHHA. The exam
was from 8am to 12pm. Hindi siya super daming items and hindi rin nakakapressure yung oras. The
exam itself was hard but easier compared to USTET kasi very friendly siya to all strands and SHS
based siya kaya goods to go naman.
