INTRODUCTION:
Two relatively new concepts in the area of teaching-learning strategies that are
gaining prominence in recent decades are both meta-learning and the personalized
learning system. Meta-learning is described as the “learning to learn” and refers to
the process of developing learning algorithms that learn from other learning
algorithms to help them enhance their performance in a wide variety of tasks.
Individual learning paradigms. They are based on the increase of students’ needs,
capabilities, and interests and offer a learning experience “in peoples will.” This
denotes higher action, motivation, and effectiveness because learning outcomes
depend on the students’ direct participation. Meta-learning makes personalized
learning systems particularly effective as it allows for the use of flexible learning
algorithms. From other learning methods, both methods and techniques evolve.
Graph 1: The Universal Meta-Learning System. One of the major reasons that meta-
learning is more vital considering personalized learning systems is that it helps
machine learning to develop more flexible and more adaptive learning algorithms.
Meta-learning can learn from other learning algorithms to enhance the performance
of the existing algorithms or learn the learning algorithm itself. Consequently, this
makes it possible to offer better-tailored learning experiences to individual learners.
This has been the main driving factor in what is known as the-era of big data and
learning analytics as personalized learning has been popular due to the availability of
adequate data that could be used to guide the design and delivery of educational
content. Meta-learning can also develop general learning algorithms that can adapt
to diverse learning tasks and domains. In addition, meta-learning can also be very
useful for personalized learning systems that should be able to meet the needs of
learners with different learning styles and preferences in different subjects at different
educational levels. Meta-learning algorithms can help systems meet the unique
needs and meet individual learner preferences. This is especially important to
personalized learning systems, which are designed to address the learner’s
individual abilities, prior knowledge, and learning needs. Meta-learning and
personalized learning systems have numerous examples of application. For
example, a machine learning, meta-learning helps to enhance the overall
performance of learning algorithms which exist by learning from the remaining
learning algorithms. Another example refers to personalized systems of learning
revamped learning environments. They are introduced in schools and other
educational institutions and special attention is paid to students as to the individually-
oriented ones. The systems may be single pieces of adaptive software which alter
the following elements according to each student’s proficiency or they may be more
integrated in relation to the college degree, preferences or passion, and social,
emotional, and physical development.
Literature Review:
Personalized learning systems are designed to meet the needs and interests of
individual users. This literature review investigates how meta-learning, a technique
that allows models to learn how to learn, can revolutionize personalised learning.
Research Challenges:
Limited Data: Personalized learning frequently works with limited data per
student. Meta-learning algorithms must be efficient in adapting to few-shot
learning strategies [5].
Future Directions:
Research on individualized learning rates within the meta-learning framework
can help to improve adaptability for individual learners [1].
Combining meta-learning with other AI approaches, such as natural language
processing, can improve communication and feedback within the learning
system.
