The thesis examines the delignitization process in Greece and the
transition to a low-emissions energy model. It analyzes the reasons
leading to the move away from lignite, such as the European climate targets and the decrease in the competitiveness of lignite plants. It presents the objectives of the National Energy and Climate Plan for 2030. It analyzes the economic figures of the lignite regions and the sector's contribution to employment. Finally, it presents the effects of lignitization and the compensatory actions planned through the Just Development Transition Plan for lignite-dependent areas.
