CONNECTION BETWEEN MIRANDA AND SEX EDUCATION

There is a connection between Miranda and Otis. They find it difficult to face sexual situations,
they are awkward for their friends. Otis¨s best friend, Eric , laughs at him because he can't even
masturbate . Miranda feels uncomfortable about Stevie, her friend, about her expressing sexual
attraction to a man.

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN FLEABAG AND MIRANDA

Both Miranda (sitcom) and Phoebe in Fleabag (tragicomedy) are two women that seek love in
whatever way they can. On the one hand, Phoebe uses sex to fill a void of loneliness, remorse
and self-hatred. On the other hand, Miranda is also looking for a man to love her, but she does
it by making jokes about herself or making a fool of herself to get attention from others. Likewise,
both love to look at the camera, breaking the fourth wall. Both flirt to the camera, in a
confessional way, they comment on situations and make fun of themselves.

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN FLEABAG AND SEX EDUCATION

Both Fleabag and Sex Education deal with sex as their main theme. In the case of Fleabag, it talks
about sex without prejudice, that is to say, the main character, Phoebe, talks about sex in a freer
and more open way, as until now only men talked about it. Sex education, on the other hand,
also tries to "normalise" sex and make it not a taboo subject in society. Both TV shows seek to
break gender stereotypes, challenging traditional gender roles and showing that we all have the
right to express our sexuality and our emotions in the way that makes us happy or the way we
just want.

CONNECTION BETWEEN FLEABAG AND RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE U.K.

Both shows seek to challenge the common stereotypes imposed by society. RuPaul's Drag Race"
is a reality show based on integration and exposing controversial issues such as racism, bullying
and homophobia. The show seeks to individualise drag performers and show them as qualified
artists, breaking down the stereotype that affects them. It also seeks to leave a clear message in
support of LGBT rights, by representing a marginalised/stigmatised group and making visible
stories about homophobia, AIDS, gender identity or racism that are not always visible to the
general audience. Another aim of Fleabag is to break down gender stereotypes about the female
main character, in order to allow her to enjoy sex freely or touch herself without being shy about
it. This means that both women and men can enjoy sex as they wish without being prejudged.

CONNECTION BETWEEN FLEABAG AND IT CROWD

The IT Crowd makes misogynistic jokes, in which the main characters are computer technicians,
a model of a stereotype called nerds or geek, usually referred for their intellectual capacity and
are the object of jokes. At the beginning of the episode the guys try to impress her and before
introducing themselves, so they clean up themselves, brush their teeth and pretend to have an
interesting conversation about books to appear more intellectual. But when she tells them that
she is going to be their boss, they don't accept her, because a woman is not prepared for that
kind of job. In this show we can clearly see the gender stereotype, where women can't do the
same kind of tasks as men. Fleabag tries to break this gender stereotype that is very present in
IT CROWD.
CONNECTION BETWEEN IT CROWD AND RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE

Both the main characters of ‘it crowd’ and the drags that are in the competition are stigmatised
people in society. On the one hand, in the case of ‘it crowd’, the characters are an archetype of
nerd or geek people who are usually mocked and bullied, as they are not considered cool people,
who wear trendy clothes and do not clean themselves. On the other hand, in Rupaul's drag race
the competitors, the drag queens, are stigmatised and discriminated against in society because
of the way they dress and behave. One contrast between the two series is that in ‘It crowd’ there
is a clear misogyny of the characters against their boss, a woman. On the other hand, in rupaul
drag race u.k. they seek just the opposite, eliminating gender stereotypes from society.

CONNECTION BETWEEN IT CROWD AND MY MAD FAT DIARY

Both the main characters in ‘mad fat diary’ and ‘it crowd’ are discriminated and stigmatised
people in society. In the case of ‘mad fat diary’, Rae is discriminated and bullied because of her
physical appearance, her fatness, which makes her feel insecure and unable to integrate into
society. In the case of ‘it crowd’, the main characters are people called ‘nerds’ or ‘geeks’ by
society, because of their intellect. This archetype of people are generally mocked because they
are considered uncool, uncool, unmodern, dirty, boring, etc.

CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CROWN AND THE WALL BY ROGER WATERS

The two characters in the two series are misunderstood people in society, people stigmatised for
their mental problems caused by events in their lives. On the one hand, in The Crown, Fegan is
an unemployed construction worker who tries to get some kind of response from the state to
his poverty and the failed marriage he is refusing to give up. Finally, he turns to Buckingham
Palace, to the office of Queen Elizabeth II, in pursuit of an answer. On the other hand, Pink, the
main character of the film, is in a constant state of depression due to the loss of his father in the
Second World War, son of an overprotective mother and victim of a conservative and
traditionalist education. Its historical context, the eighties, the period of Margaret Thatcher as
prime minister and where the film shows us the coincidences of the critical reflection in the
movie, makes it a film that helps us to understand the reality of those years".

CONNECTION BETWEEN MY MAD FAT DIARY AND THE DAYDREAMER

The main character of The Daydreamer, Peter Fortune, is a boy stigmatised in society for being
different from others. Although his lack of similarity like the other kids was seen as a defect by
adults, this unusual boy decides to write down the adventures he lived through in his mind. Just
like Rae, in my mad fat diary, she is also a girl who is not understood by others, she is bullied by
others because of her fatness. So, both are people who are stigmatised by society, either because
of their physical appearance or their way of being or behaving in life.

CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE DAYDREAMER

Both characters, Peter and Pink, are two characters who seek to challenge society, thus both Pink
and Peter shape their own wall, their own imaginary world. As a result, both are not understood
by society, they are stigmatized by it. Both characters suffer from trauma, in Rae's case, the
trauma of her physical appearance, her low self-esteem and depression lead her to attempt
suicide and she ends up in a psychiatric hospital. In Pink's case, he suffered traumas such as the
death of her father in the Second World War, her mother's overprotection, the strict British
education, drugs and their excesses, and the responsibility and stress of being a rock star. All this
would turn Pink into an insurmountable wall to protect herself from the world and the
circumstances that surrounded her. Inevitably, this would lead Pink to attempt suicide due to his
great mental imbalance.

CONNECTION BETWEEN YEARS AND YEARS AND MODERN FAMILY

In the TV show 'years and years' we can see the Lyon family made up of groups that are clearly
stigmatised by society. There is the homosexual couple, the mixed-race couple and their children,
the disabled sister Rosie, who at the same time is a single mother, but who is nevertheless in
search of love. Both families are composed of particular and stigmatised members. In Modern
Family, as in Years and Years, the family is made up of a homosexual couple, who have as a
reference the elderly father who acts as a patriarchal figure, a very common stereotype in
society. Also, the family is composed of latin members, who are also stigmatised by society as
being criminals and dangerous, and who come from underdeveloped countries. Claire represents
the traditional American family, consisting of her husband and three children approaching their
teenage years.

CONNECTION JANE THE VIRGIN AND YEARS AND MODERN FAMILY

Both Jane the virgin and Modern family seek to break down the prejudices and stigmatisation of
Latin society. The prejudices that they have are that they are criminals, drug dealers, people who
steal jobs, undocumented, or that they speak a ''strange'' form of English, etc. In the case of Jane,
she is a humble Latin girl, a Venezuelan who is engaged to a policeman, a prejudice of the gang
wars that we see in American police series. Another theme is that she is pregnant by a playboy
called Rafael, a millionaire who is sterile because of cancer. Cancer has always been associated
with a certain degree of stigma or social rejection, but fortunately this has been lessened
today. Another theme is virginity, a prejudice about women. Other issues dealt with in the show
are religion in their community, where Jane is a virgin because her grandmother is a practising
Catholic, and the natural use of Spanish in everyday life (her grandmother only speaks Spanish
but understands it, while Jane uses English much more).

CONNECTION BETWEEN JANE THE VIRGIN AND YEARS AND YEARS

Both Jane the virgin and years and years have foreign characters and seek to break the
stigmatisation of these people. In Jane the Virgin, the characters are a Latin American family who
live in the United States, where they are seen as criminals, who steal jobs from other people,
who are undocumented and who are seen as dangerous. On the other hand, in Years and Years,
Stephen is one of the Lyons brothers who is an English banker and married to Celeste, an Afro-
American woman. African-Americans are afraid of looking suspicious when they do any activity
such as going to a coffee shop or sitting on a bench in the United States. In the United States
there is a lot of racial prejudice, where African-Americans are afraid of looking suspicious when
they do any activity such as going to a coffee shop or sitting on a bench in the United States.

CONNECTION BETWEEN MODERN FAMILY AND YEARS AND YEARS

In both Years and Years and Modern Family there are two families made up of different
stigmatized groups. In the case of years and years the Lyons family is made up of: Stephen, who
is the typical Englishman who works in a bank and is married to a woman of African American
origin. Then there's Daniel, the gay brother who initially leaves his husband and starts dating
Viktor, a Ukrainian refugee whom he tries to protect. On the other hand, Modern Family is also
made up of a stigmatized family made up of: a homosexual couple, who have as a reference the
elderly father who acts as a patriarchal figure, a very common stereotype in society. Also, the
family is composed of latin members, who are also stigmatised by society as being criminals and
dangerous, and who come from underdeveloped countries. Claire represents the traditional
stereotypical American family, consisting of her husband and three children approaching their
teenage years.

CONNECTION BETWEEN IT’S A SIN AND THE CROWN.

Both series are set in the 1980s and show the problems experienced during that decade's
economic crisis as a health crisis. On the one hand, the crudest years of HIV are shown, with the
first cases of AIDS, family rejection, the hypocrisy of a society in which being homosexual was a
punishment, prejudice, denial, abuse, rage, shame, pride, homophobia, mistrust, and the
resistance to accept that everything is going to end at the best of times. Both series are set in
the 1980s and show the problems experienced during that decade. On the other hand, in the
crown, we see the economic problems of the country during the government of the minister
Margaret Thatcher, her popularity decreased in the middle of the recession and the high
unemployment caused by her policies, until the economic recovery and the victory in the
Falklands War in 1982 gave her an increase in her popularity, which resulted in her re-election in
the following year (1983).

CONNECTION BETWEEN IT’S A SIN AND YEARS AND YEARS.

Both series, it’s a sin and years and years are created by the same script writer Russell T. Davies.
They show stigmatized groups, such as homosexuals, marginalized by society. In the case of It's
a sin, it shows the rejection of homosexuals who contracted AIDS during the 1980s by their family
or friends. In Years and Years, one of the brothers from the Lyons family appears in a relationship
with another man. Both series seek to challenge the issue of homosexuality.

CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CROWN AND YEARS AND YEARS

In both the crown and years and years we can appreciate the presence of two conservative prime
ministers. In the case of The crown, we have Margaret Thatcher, a conservative minister who
took charge at a time of increasing racial tensions in Britain and popular discontent due to her
economic measures. In the case of Years and Years, we have Vivienne Rook, another British
conservative politician. She holds xenophobic and racist discourse and has ruled the UK as Prime
Minister. Like Thatcher's policies, her policies produced social discontent and social inequality.

CONNECTION BETWEEN BIG TRAIN AND JANE THE VIRGIN

Both Big Train and Jane the Virgin deal with linguistic variation and linguistic discrimination in
the world. On the one hand, in Jane the Virgin we have Alba Gloriana Villanueva, Jane 's
grandmother. She always speaks in Spanish, and she does it as a natural thing, because it is her
mother tongue, and not as a resource to create comic situations. However, she understands
English perfectly well, as both her daughter and granddaughter speak to her in English practically
all the time. Indigenous peoples in Latin America or immigrant communities who arrive in a new
country are mostly discriminated against or stigmatized. On the other hand, in Big Train there is
a sketch where a driver whose car has broken down asks two French locals if they speak English.
They reply, in perfect English, that they don't speak English, and start a conversation (in perfect
English) about how they should have paid more attention to their English classes at school,
implying to the tourist that they find it difficult to speak English. And in the end they say that
they speak English. In many countries, English is seen as the international language of business
and global communication, and people who do not speak English can be marginalised or
excluded in many professional contexts.
