TB 05 Resolution of Issues
TB 05 Resolution of Issues
Some legislation’s give Health and Safety representatives the authority to raise health and
safety with management on behalf of the employees in the work group they represent,
however, whilst this is supported, it leaves the opportunity open to everyone to also report any
issues.
The company has a documented process for resolving issues, which is covered in the
Employee Induction Handbook. This flow process shows the method for resolution of safety
issues.
If any person believes that Safety Regulations, or Company Policy or Procedures are being
breached, they are obligated to initiate the process to protect the Safety and Health of the
workforce, and the well-being of their fellow colleagues and the Company.
Consultation:
A vital first step that must be taken is for management to be consulted to try and resolve the
problem. Consultation involves the employee or representative informing management of the
issue and providing information about why he/she believes there is a problem.
During consultation there should be the opportunity for both parties to consider and discuss
the issues, to listen to each other’s views and to take these into account in deciding on further
action. This approach has the advantage of allowing management and employees to pool their
knowledge, to cooperate in evaluating the issue to jointly find a solution.
If the problem cannot be resolved by consultation within a reasonable period of time the
matter must then be referred to a Safety Meeting.
If it cannot be resolved at that point then the company Resolution of Issues Procedure must be
exhausted.
Ultimately, if the issue cannot be resolved after the company procedure has been exhausted,
then the issue needs to be reported to the relevant inspectorate.
