Report for Free Trial of Aluminium Analyser for HDGL/CRM-III

A free trial was conducted by M/s Heraeus in HDGL, CRM-III for testing the performance of their online
Aluminium analyser for zinc pot. The trial was conducted for a period of 30 days from 16.09.2023 to
15.10.2023.

A committee consisting of the undersigned was formed to facilitate the free trial, coordinate day-to-day
activities related to the trial and verify the performance of the instrument in terms of longevity and accuracy.
Findings of the trial are detailed as follows:

1. Test of Longevity
a. The instrument was found to be working satisfactorily round the clock, throughout the trial
duration of 30 days.
b. The instrument was found to be capable of providing consistent reading and all the hardware
and software modules were performed to be working satisfactorily throughout the duration
of trial for 30 days.
2. Test of Accuracy
a. For each day of the trial, two samples were taken from the zinc pot (one at 10.00AM, another
at 03.00 PM everyday) and the corresponding reading from the online analyser was noted
down in logbook for verification. The collected sample was then sent to R&C lab for analysis
of Aluminium %. The result from the R&C lab was mentioned in the same logbook.
b. A total of 60 readings have been preserved for 30 days of trial conducted. The same is
attached as Annexure-1. It was observed that the readings from the analyser were found to
be satisfactorily accurate (average difference observed between reading from the analyzer
and result received from R&C laboratory was 0.00105).

3. Other Observations
a. The instrument was observed to provide real-time trend of Pot Aluminium % and Zinc Pot
Temperature on a continuous basis
b. The instrument was successful in communicating with HDGL’s existing level-1 automation
system over ethernet connectivity. This would enable visualizing the result on the existing
HMIs and Mobile Dashboards at HDGL.

In view of the performance demonstrated, it may be concluded that the instrument along with its
hardware and software modules were found to work satisfactorily throughout the duration of trial.
