DSWD DROMIC Report #45 on the

Effects of Southwest Monsoon and Super Typhoon “Egay”

as of 26 September 2023, 6PM

I. Situation Overview

Issued on 21 July 2023 at 5PM, Tropical Depression (TD) “Egay” maintained its
strength as it accelerated West Northwestward over the Philippine Sea. On the
following day, TD “Egay” slighty intensified and became a Tropical Storm. “Egay”
continued to affect the country as it enhanced the Southwest Monsoon and brought
occasional rains over several areas in the next three days. On 24 July 2023, “Egay”
steadily intensified as it moved North Northwestward and became a Typhoon.

“Egay” reached the Super Typhoon category on 25 July 2023 and maintained its
strength as it continued to threaten Northern Luzon. The Southwest Monsoon
enhanced by “Egay” would continue to bring occasional to monsoon rains over the
western portions of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas in the next three
days. Further, “Egay” and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon continued to bring gusty
conditions over the coastal and upland / mountainous areas exposed to winds.

On 26 July 2023 at 5PM, “Egay” slowly moved away from Dalupiri Island. “Egay”
maintained its strength as it moved West Northwestward and exited the Philippine
Area of Responsibility (PAR) on 27 July 2023.
