Why | am recommending another year in kindergarten for Jaa Social and Emotional Skills © BBWistruggtes to sit and listen for short periods of time, follow directions, and properly interact with peers. © He is getting frustrated with his peers who are now reminding him of what he should and should not be doing. © He wants to be a leader but doesn’t know how and this ends up with many arguments and outbursts. Age © BBBBais not as mature socially and emotionally because he is so young All but one other classmate is 6 now This is largely why he is struggling so much with writing and any task that requires writing. He doesn't have the fine motor development, strength, or stamina for such tasks leading to more frustration, refusal, and behavioral issues. © If he repeats kindergarten he stil will never be a7 year old kindergarten student, instead he will be with peers that are closer to his same age, turning 6. © While repeating a grade is a serious consideration, this is the time to do it and is the only age where it will be more of a benefit than a detriment. ‘Academics © The majority of RMBs brain power right now is being used to keep up with and be accepted by his peers instead of taking in all of the academics. First grade will be more work with less play. | worry that [MIMI will experience lower self esteem due to constant time outs, time spent making up work, peer ostracization, and visits to the dean or counselor's office. ¢ | think that if BRAY continues he will need one on one support and will likely spend more time out of the classroom. An extra year in a lower pressure environment could make a big difference by giving him the space and time to master these skills without the academic workload, I strongly believe that MBB needs more time to play and the chance to become a leader that another year in kindergarten would provide with him. Right now he is testing at grade level for reading and math but typically doesn’t complete the work, stay on topic. in discussion, and struggles to complete any activity without adult help Teacher support He was a good candidate according to the Light's retention scale. © In addition to the RT! behavior team, | have spoken with the resource teacher, his specials teachers, the other kindergarten teachers who spend recess and lunches with and the two classroom paras that work with him each day. . will be the other kindergarten teacher next year and she will be able to provide MBE with the social emotional support he is still developing while challenging him academically as an experienced 1 grade and kindergarten teacher.
