[ EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM WORK?

When we talk about "high school" in Romania, we usually mean the time
between the ninth and twelfth grades, which consists of two required years
(9th and 10th year) and two optional years (11th and 12th year). Between
the tenth and eleventh grades, there are no tests. Additionally, some
students enroll in five-year programs (such as a three-year professional
school followed by two more years of high school education).
IN ROMANIA, THERE ARE VARIOUS
KINDS OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS:
National Colleges: The most esteemed
secondary education programs in Romania,
all of which provide only theoretical courses
High school
Vocational school
Technical College
Economic College
Military College
The student population is divided into cohorts,
which we will refer to as groups of 25-35 people
rather than classes to avoid confusing them with
the American educational concept. Each cohort is
supervised by a single teacher who fulfills the
roles of both a teacher and a counselor (as
defined by the American educational system)
Throughout high school, all members of the same
cohort will enroll in the same courses. There are
no Advanced Placement or Honors courses
available; the two to three subjects that are
listed in the student's academic profile or
area of specialization and are given more
classes per week are the most similar.
Nearly all courses are required, with one
or two electives offered each year, and of
the same difficulty level for all students.Standardized testing is still common in Romanian
education, with British English exams like the Cambridge
ones being particularly well-liked. For exams such as the
SATs and TOEFL, each student needs to educate
themselves and be ready on their own.
Students choose the high school pathways they are
interested in while applying to schools based on the
average of their National Test results (Romanian &
Mathematics). Typically, the profiles in the sciences are
more competitive than those in the humanities,
Every Romanian high school student's
academic program consists of 12to17
subjects each year, (divided in 5
modules) which are studied for about
30 hours per week. In general, the
topics are as follows:
* Mathematics (including Calculus,
Trigonometry and Algebra);
* Computer Programming;
+ TAC;
+ Romanian Language and Literature;
+ Two foreign languages (usually English
and French/German);
+ Geography;
* History;
+ Chemistry;
* Physics;
* Logic and Argumentation;
* Psychology;
* Entrepreneurial Education;
+ Economics;
+ Philosophy;
* Arts and Music;
* Physical Education;
* Religion (optional);
* One hour of Counseling/Homeroom per
week (not credit-bearing, but connected
to the Conduct line in the transcript).Module timeline
+ Module 1: September-October, with a one-week
vacation in between;
+ Module 2: November through December, with the
Christmas Break in between;
+ Module 3: January-February, with a one-week
vacation in between;
* Module 4: February-April, with the Easter
vacation in between;
+ Module 5: May-June, Then the Summer Holiday

GRADING AND RANKING
Marks range from 1 (extremely poor) to 10
(outstanding) under the grading system. A student
needs to receive at least a 5 in every course to pass
one year and advance to the next. Every Romanian
high school graduate sits for the National
Baccalaureate exam, which consists of written and
oral examinations in a predetermined set of
disciplines (Mathematics-Computer Science, Natural
Sciences, Social Sciences, Philology) based on the
student's profile. Each test must have a minimum
grade of 5, and the overall average must be at least 6
out of 10.
