Security Level: Customer Verbal Use

Date Written/Updated: 6 June 2008
Document Summary
 PC attached to printer via 5m non-certified High Speed USB cable and receives “Job Too
Complex” on printer or “printing error” on PC.

Issue Description:
The 5m cable is a supported length for USB connectivity. Some USB cables that do
not advertise or are marked as Certified High Speed USB, may be associated with
“Job too complex” on the printer and a non specific “printer error” on the PC, that
appears in the print queue. This situation should rarely occur, however, some older
PC’s and some USB cables do not support the Certified High Speed USB standard
and the issue may occur.

Solution or Workaround:

If the issue is suspected to be the 5 meter, non-certified USB cable and the customer
must have the 5 meter cable length; use the following to attempt to resolve the issue.
To reduce the occurrence of the “Job too complex” error on the printer, or a non
specific “printer error” on the PC, which appears in the print queue, the customer will
need to modify the USB speed from “High” to “Full” in the main menu /service menu.
