2.1 Literature Review Introduction
Timur Choban Khidir[1] ‘International journal of Design and Analysis of Bushed
Pin Flexible Coupling’,, Design of bushed pin flexible coupling by using the standard equation for
design and applying finite amount of torque for testing purposes to find the main deformation in the
couplings thus
trying to improve the design for maximizing the bearing effect for the coupling body and that’s by
using the Solidworks simulation in order to visualize the failure spots on the body. For extra testing
we applied a maximum torque with both bushed rubber and brass, single bush (Brass, Rubber, and
Aluminum) and
a solid pin for comparing the results to find the optimum design.

V. Hariharan et al [2] ‘International journal of Vibrational Analysis of Flexible
Coupling by Considering Unbalance’,2010 This paper, experimental studies were performed on
a rotor dynamic test apparatus to predict the vibration spectrum for rotor unbalance.Misalignment
and unbalance is the most cause of machine vibration.Unbalance rotor always cause more vibration
and generates excessive force in bearing area and reduces the life of machine. A self-designed
simplified 3 pin type flexible coupling was used in the experiments. The rotor shaft accelerations were
measured at four different speed using accelerometer and dual channel vibration analyzer (ADASH)
under the balance (baseline) and unbalance conditions. The experimental and numerical (ANSYS)
frequency spectra were also obtained for both base line and unbalanced condition under different
unbalanced forces. The experimental predictions are in good agreement with the ANSYS results. Both
the experimental and numerical (ANSYS) spectra show that unbalance can be characterized primarily
by one times (1X) shaft running speed

Ramees Rahman A, Dr S Sankar & Dr K S Senthil Kumar[3] “Replacement of Grid Coupling

with Bush Pin Coupling in Blower”,Couplings are used to connect the driving shaft to the driven shaft
in rotating equipment. This direct connection will help for the transmission of power between the
shafts. Grid couplings are type of coupling which is connected by means of metallic grid. This metallic
grid takes up the load and will breaks down on overload conditions and misalignment conditions. Grid
coupling will take up a misalignment of 3 mm, to reduce the failure rate of
equipment due to the failure of grid coupling, bush pin coupling is introduced. It can take up a
misalignment of 5 mm and will help in damping the vibration. All dimensions of bush pin coupling is
calculated and analysed the same with
ANSYS workbench 15.The grid coupling is having higher rate of failure and it can only withstand a small
misalignment. But Bush pin couplings can withstand misalignment of 5 mm. and this coupling is
designed and analysed with help of ANSYS. By the analysis we found that bush pin coupling can
withstand a misalignment of about 5 mm. it can withstand a stress of 648 Mpa

Ayaz Aydin Abduljabbar, Abbas Mohammed Ismael & Isam E. Yousif[4]“DESIGN AND
ANALYSIS OF TIRE COUPLING”,he tire coupling is torsional soft flexible coupling which is a feature that
most desirable for optimum torque transmission. Designing the tire coupling by using the standard
parameters and applying the torque for testing purposes will find the main deformation in the
couplings. So we will try to improve the design to maximize the bearing effect for the coupling body.
We will use the Solidworks simulation in order to visualize the failure spots on the body. In our
research for testing we will apply a maximum torque 64 N.m and use rubber and polyurethane and
other parts of the tire coupling are (Alloy steel). As a result we will compare these two materials
(Rubber and Polyurethane) to find the optimum design.

Sandeep Rajput, Rajkumar Sharma & Mohit Kuma[5] “Automation of Design &
Modeling Aspects of Bush-Pin Coupling”,As we know that the coupling is a device used for transmitting
high torque from one shaft to another in industrial applications. In this paper designing and modeling
of bush-pin coupling has been performed. The software MS-Excel, CATIA V5R20, and MATLAB are
utilized for designing, modeling, and simulating the bush-pin coupling. The design and modeling
process has been automated by the synchronization with MS-Excel and CATIA V520. This automated
process will be helpful in the understanding concept of designing and modeling by the researcher and
industrial experts. This process will also save time and energy which will be helpful in optimization of
different input parameters to achieve high torque at low investment.

Prof. R.S.Powar,Prof.N.SDeshmukh & Dr.S.D.Suryawanshi[6]” Flexible

Coupling a New Approach”, This paper presents the concept of flexible type of coupling for
power transmission in light load conditions. In some cases of power transmission due to manufacturing
limitations and/or misalignment at the time of installation, coupling may fail. It is observed that in
power transmission flexible links are used in the form of belt loops. In such a design, belt subjects to
shear failure. In present study belts are so mounted on flanges that it subjects to tensile load. In
general it is observed that the strength of material is higher in tension than shear. In previous design of
flexible couplings more axial space and material is required than the present design. For present
coupling various types of belts are to be used as a flexible link in between two shafts. Various belts are
selected and tested for coupling design; with this data of belt testing a flexible coupling is designed .
Due to modifications in design and material selection 20 % weight reduction is achieved .This weight
reduction not only reduces cost of coupling but will reduces installation and vibration problems. Radial
distance also decreases by 25%.Connecting two flanges belt as a flexible element is used which reduces
noise during power transmission. It will be used for single cylinder four stroke engines having rated
power of 2.28 kW at 3600 rpm. This set up is being used for I.C. Engine lab. The concept originates due
to frequent failure of rigid flange coupling.
