3. Solve: 101x + 99y = 499, 99x + 101y = 501

4. One number is greater than thrice the other number by 2. If 4 times the
smaller number exceeds the greater by 5, find numbers.

5. A fraction is such that if the numerator is multiplied by 3 and the

denominator is reduced by 3, we get , but if the numerator is increased

by 8 and the denominator is doubled, we get . Find the fraction.

6. In a rectangle, if the length is increased and the breadth is reduced each by

2 cm then the area is reduced by 28 cm2. If the length is reduced by 1 cm and
the breadth increased by 2 cm, then area increases by 33 cm 2. Find the area
of the rectangle.

7. Solve the following system of linear equations graphically:

x − y = 1 , 2x + y = 8
Shade the area bounded by these two lines with x and y-axis. Also determine
their areas.
