History of Balkan States

The Balkans is a geographical area in southeastern Europe with various geographical


and historical definitions. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains that
stretch throughout the whole of Bulgaria.

The term balkan has a Turkish origin, that means precisely 'mountain'». First coined by
German geographer August Zeune. Balkan Countries” region includes Croatia and the
countries of the Western Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Kosovo,
Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

The Balkan Peninsula is usually presented as a frontier and a demarcation line of


different traditions – Catholicism, Christian orthodoxy and Islam – and also as an area
of a problematic interrelation of different ethnic groups and peoples of Slavic, Latin,
Finno-Ugric, Greek and Turkish origin.

Why Conflict?

The following are the three reasons for Balkan issue: Most of
Balkan parts were under the control of Ottoman Empire. The
people of Balkan demanded for their freedom and political rights.
Balkans wanted to capture more territories and this lead to the
power of rivalry
