What Are Discovery Calls?

When you want to sell something high-ticket, it is always


a good idea to have a discovery call as a part of your
process.

A Discovery Call is an audio/video call that you do with


a prospect in order to convert them into a paying client.

BENEFITS:

• Clients get a chance to get to know you more.


• This could be a more intimate setting to get questions
answered.
• This is your chance to make your prospects more com-
fortable with the idea of investing in you.
• This is also your chance to showcase your expertise.
• More importantly, it’s your chance to SELL.

PREPARING FOR A DISCOVERY CALL
Don’t sound dull, bored or like you lack confidence in your calls.
That shows a lack of authority and your client may be hesitant to
invest in you even if your pitch is perfect! To prep yourself, you
could maybe listen to music and loosen up a little.

During the call, forget about everything else for a few minutes
and focus only on building a connection with the potential client.
You can have a small conversation before getting into the busi-
ness.
When you’re offering your services, sound confident! Practice your
pitch a million times beforehand if that makes it perfect, because
you cannot risk losing a client because of a poor pitch. Don’t be
nervous, or unsure about your offer. If possible you could reach
out to other freelancers in the community who have worked with
your potential client to get an idea about them. If you can find re-
views online, that works too!

When numbers are discussed, do not fumble for answers. If your


client asks for some notable results you achieved, in numbers, you
should be able to remember them. Do not start looking for infor-
mation after it’s mentioned, also do not give vague numbers
you’re unsure of. Do not tell them you’ll check and get back to
them. Keep case studies ready.

Don’t sound too excited or talk alot. Be calm and composed and
talk like a friend/ advisor/ consultant.

You: Hi <client name>! Lovely to connect with you.
Thank you for taking time out of your schedule.
Them: Thanks, happy to be here.
You: Where are you joining from?
Them: Bengaluru.
You: Oh! Lovely city. I'm joining from Chennai. :)

Awesome, so, I don't want to take a lot of your time. The


goal of this call is to get to know you better and see if
we can work together. We have a total of 30 minutes
together- let's begin! :)

My name is ____. I am a Social Media Manager. I help


businesses scale up and achieve their Social Media
Goals.

I'd love to know more about your company and its jour-
ney so far.
Them: Journey
You: Wow! That’s quite a journey! This gives me a lot of
clarity. In fact, I have worked on a similar Social Media
project before. An old client <talk about journey>.
Today, of course, they are <talk about where they
stand>. Anyway, could you tell me what are the biggest

goals in terms of Social Media that you're looking
toward now?
Them: Goals
You: Really awesome goals! Hearing this, I'm quite
happy that we connected because I have a lot of expe-
rience in helping people with these exact goals. I want
to understand now- what are the biggest challenges
you're facing in achieving these goals?
Them: Challenges
You: Makes total sense. These are actually quite
common- a lot of people at the level that you're at get
stuck with this. I'd like to make a few recommendations
that will for sure help you.

send it over on email after our call. Is that okay?
Them: Great- okay! Sounds good.
You: Awesome! After this call, I'll send across a detailed
mail with all the information and you can reply to me on
that if you have any other questions. Really looking for-
ward to working with you :)
