Does sport

equal health?
by Oliwia Konieczniak

The saying that sport is health is widely accepted.
Not without a reason, because physical activity
and outdoor exercises contribute to improving
the condition and
efficiency of the body.

Playing sports prolongs the fitness

and health of the body, and the joy
that comes from physical activity can
be scientifically proven. There is no
lack of evidence that regular exercises
have a positive effect on the health
and functioning of individual organs
and life expectancy.
When we talk about the
importance of physical activity for
health, the study that took place
many years ago among the drivers
and conductors of London buses is
often quoted. Drivers suffered from
heart disease more often than
conductors because they hardly
moved at all. Conduktorów even
protected as little physical effort as
walking between passengers.
One of the basic benefits that sports gives us is
less likely to get many diseases, e.g.:

● causes lowering blood sugar levels,

● regulates metabolism,
● reduces the risk of cardiovascular disorders,
● lowers blood pressure,
● prevents osteoporosis,
● strengthens the immune system.
An additional benefit of physical
activity is maintaining a healthy body
weight. During exercise, the burning
rate of calories increases, which
reduces fat and permanently achieves
a perfect figure.

Another important benefit of sports is

the improvement of mood, because:

● through movement, our mental

performance improves, that is, the
ability to remember is increased
● through the movement we
● regular exercise unload negative emotions.
reduces the likelihood
of developing
depression and other
mood disorders - this
is because you
exercise serotonin
responsible for your
happiness during
exercise
● sport gives a sense of
satisfaction, which increases
our self-esteem
For now, I have only mentioned
the positive aspects of
practicing sports by fully
functional people. But every
stick has 2 ends. It should be
remembered that practicing
sports also involves an
increased risk of injury.

The current fashion for active

leisure, roller-skating, running,
causes the number of body
injuries increases during spring
and summer months.
Bruises and minor
abrasions of the
epidermis are quite
common injuries in
sport, not always
requiring a doctor's
help. However, patients
with more

serious injuries - fractures and dislocations, when it is

necessary to hospitalize the patient, and
sometimes even surgical treatment - go to the surgeon
or orthopaedist. It is worth to remember about proper
protection when practicing sports - protectors, helmet-
and a little common sense.
But if we look after ourselves and maintain an active lifestyle at the
same time, the later effects will positively affect our health. For example:

A study was carried out on 13,535 women who

were exercising regularly in their middle age
showed that they enjoyed better health when they
reached the age of 70 than those who were not
active.

All participants who at the beginning of the

experiment were on average 60 years old and were
physically active, at a later age were less likely to
suffer from chronic diseases, heart disease or the
impairment of cognitive and mental nature.
However, before starting any
physical activities, a sport
should be adapted not only to
our physical capabilities, but
also to preferences and
personalities. Therefore, yoga
classes will be better for calm
and precise people, while
aerobics, gym or running will be
nicer for people feeling excess
energy.
Here are some suggestions
for spending time active:

Therefore, in response
to our question: "Does sport equal health" I can
say 100% that yes, everything in moderation and
reason, not overloading the organization and
exercise was a pleasure.
