Crochet Plaid Moose Scarf

I got the idea for this adorable Moose Scarf after creating the Crochet Moose Hat a few
weeks ago! I love the way plaid looks with the cute moose face! It’s actually easy to
crochet a plaid (buffalo check) pattern. You need Black and Red yarn and then a darker
(maroon) red. These shades I used of Bernat Super Value are perfect! I am using Berry
Red, Black, and Redwood Heather for the plaid part of the scarf. You can find these
colors HERE on yarnspirations.com. I have a video tutorial to show you how I crochet the

Materials:
-Bernat Super Value
For the Plaid:
Berry Red
Black
Redwood Heather
For the Moose:
Topaz (medium beige for the main part of the moose)
Taupe (dark brown for the snout and hoofs)
Oatmeal (light brown for the antlers)

– Size H Crochet Hook
– 2 small black buttons
– Tapestry Needle

Scarf Pattern:
Starting with topaz
Chain 22, DC in third chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 2, turn
(20 DC)
Row 2-10: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn
Now let’s start on the plaid
Row 11: join in black, chain 2, DC in first 4, change to redwood heather, DC in next 4,
change back to black, DC in next 4, change back to redwood heather, DC in next 4,
change back to black, DC in last 4
Row 12: join in redwood heather, chain 2, DC in first 4, change to red, DC in next 4,
change to redwood heather, DC in next 4, change to red, DC in next 4, change to
redwood heather, DC in last 4
Repeat rows 11 and 12 until you get to row 51 (a total of 41 rows of plaid) or continue to
alternate rows 11 and 12 to make the scarf as long as you desire.
Row 52: join in topaz yarn (main moose color), chain 2, DC in each stitch across, chain 2,
turn
Row 53-56: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn
Fasten off weave in ends.

NOTE: I suggest going down to a size G hook for the antlers.

Antlers: Make 4
with Oatmeal (light brown yarn)
Chain 17, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1,
turn
Row 2-3: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Row 4: SC in first 4 stitches (leave remaining stitches unworked for now), chain 1, turn,
SC in 4 stitches, chain 1, turn, SC in 4 stitches, chain 1, turn, SC in 4 stitches and continue
to SC down side of first antler pieces until you get back to your main row, SC in 4 stitches
of your main row, chain 1, turn
Second and Third Antler: *SC in first 3 stitches (leaving last stitch unworked – its the
space between the antlers), chain 1, turn, SC in 3, chain 1, turn, SC in 3, chain 1, turn, SC
in 3 and SC down side of second antler piece until you get to the main row. SC in 4
stitches along main row and repeat from * to make the third antler.
When you get back to your main row, SC in last 4 stitches. Fasten off.

Place two antler pieces together sandwiching the scarf edge. Use your tapestry needle to
stitch antler pieces together onto the scarf.

Snout:
With Taupe (dark brown yarn)
Chain 12, DC in 3rd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. Make a total of
3 DC in last stitch. Now working on other side of chain, DC in each stitch and make 3 DC
in last stitch. Join to first DC, chain 2.
Round 2: (2 DC in first stitch, DC in next stitch)-do that 4 times, 2 DC in next 3 stitches, (2
DC in first stitch, DC in next stitch)- do that 4 times, 2 DC in last 4 stitches. Join to first DC.
(38 DC)
Stitch on two little nostrils with contrasting yarn.

Stitch on two black buttons for eyes over the snout.

Moose Hoofs/Legs (make 2):
with Topaz
Chain 6, SC in second chain from hook, SC in rest of the way down, chain 1, turn
Row 2-5: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
change to taupe (dark brown yarn)
Row 6-8: SC in each stitch across, chain 1,turn
Fasten off and weave in all ends except your starting strand.
Use strand of topaz yarn to connect legs to the bottom of your scarf.

You can also make a second snout for the other side of the scarf to make it reversable!
