ABSTRACT

TITLE: Cyber frauds and its impact on the Indian Economy

The Internet is frequently praised as a magnificent resource, an engaging world, and a

revolutionary experience, but for whom? Nearly every person on the globe, especially
Indians, has no idea of what cybercrime is, or crime committed digitally. Cybercrime
happens on the internet and computer sectors. This kind of crimes has a major negative
impact on our economy, lives, and society because our culture is evolving to become an
information society with a lot of information exchange taking place in cyberspace. There is a
high chance of anyone getting trapped in cybercrime. Our research aims to determine how
well-informed people are about current events of cybercrime in India and also it will be
providing some solutions to safeguard us from cyber frauds. Cybercrimes or cyber frauds
are violation of article 21 of the Constitution i.e., Right to Privacy. A survey was conducted
using a questionnaire as the instrument to get these data, and the responses were analysed
using some statistical methods. The results indicate that among other crimes, cracking,
software piracy, and pornography are commonly committed in India. The effects of these
crimes on the Indian economy, however, cannot be stressed. There were recommendations
given for methods to reduce, if not completely abolish, these crimes. Cybercrime, particularly
in India, is on the rise at a pace of 50% annually, and the number of cases is rising steadily. In
terms of global cybercrime incidences, India comes in fifth place.
