1. Wallace Hardman: Short, thick-
shouldered, and shaven-headed, Wallace’s
family has been in Florida since before
America was America. His ancestors fled into
the swamp when they managed to get away
from the Spanish, and that was when they
came upon a clutch and its guardians. Since
that day, they’ve been protected, and have
done what they can to help the Mokolé. Wal-
lace himself is a game warden who knows the
local wetlands like the back of his hand, and
he makes sure people stay out of his kin’s
territory… with words and citations when he
can, and with a round from his sidearm
when he’s forced to.

2. Rachel Bourdreaux: A Louisiana trans-

plant, Rachel makes her home in some of the
wetter parts of Alabama these days. Mostly
she runs fishing tours for out-of-state folks
who want a local to show them the best spots
to land a serious, brag-worthy catch. When
she took the business over from her uncle,
though, Rachel also inherited his responsibil-
ities to the Mokolé. As such, she’s had to fer-
ry several of her kin to various parts of the
coast as well as keep watch on lonely nights
in the middle of nowhere. It’s part of the
job, but most days she’d much rather put up
with self-important tourists than deal with
the modern-day dragons she shares blood
with.

3. Gut Scraper: A massive example of the

American breed of crocodile, Gut Scraper is
something of an urban legend among lo-

that flows all the way back to the wellspring
of the Maya, Lilian is one of the go-betweens
for the clutches in and around the Yucatan
peninsula. A veterinarian in her day-to-day
life, she’s often called upon by the Mokolè to
act as a diplomat, or to help treat her scaly
kin who have run afoul of something dan-
gerous. She relishes neither task when she
needs to perform them, but she recognizes
that if she doesn’t do her duty, the job will
go to someone a lot more likely to screw it
up.

23. Charles “Chuck” Greenwell: A wet-

lands activist, Chuck has the thick torso, gin-
ger beard, gimme cap, and heavy drawl one
would expect from somebody who lives out
past where the blacktop ends. With a mas-
ter’s degree in ecological sciences and a focus
on wetlands preservation, though, most peo-
ple find he has a surprisingly thorough plan
whenever he’s allowed onto a platform.
Chuck knows full well what he looks like (as
well as the impression it puts in people’s
minds), and he uses those assumptions
against the powers that be in his bids to pro-
tect Mokolé territory in the American South.

24. Herb Grassley: With the cracks in his

hands stained dark from motor oil and
strong, white teeth that are a contrast to his
black skin, Herb is always friendly, smiling,
telling jokes, and getting laughs. Working on

full of tips, and he keeps a few favors in his
back pocket from the rich folks whose yachts
he keeps purring for their weekend runs up
and down the coast. More than once, he’s
had to beg a boon on behalf of the Mokolé,
and a little grease on the wheels goes a long
way when Herb calls in one of his markers.

who was terminated despite legal protections,
Alicia has made it her personal mission to
hunt down and expose people who harm the
environment in general and who do damage
to Mokolé territory in particular. From illicit
dumpers to corporate bribes given to local
commissions and inspectors, Alicia has man-
aged to rack up an impressive amount of le-
gal wins and profit-draining court battles.
She hasn’t won them all, not by any stretch,
but she at least tries to make the humans
clean up their own messes before getting her
scaly kin involved.

26. Wang Bao: Living in the chaos of the

Hong Kong sprawl, Bao is often just a fly on
the wall in his hooded coat and plain black
face mask. That anonymity is his greatest as-
set one he’s used to stay informed on what’s
happening in the city and to act as a barome-
ter for violence. He is an agent who helps
both local kin as well as those who are just
passing through, and more than one body
has gone down into the sewers because they
got in Bao’s way when they shouldn’t have.
