Country Profile: Malaysia

One of the country of Southeast Asia is Malaysia. It have in total thirteen states, three federal
territories. It is also separated in to two regions: East Malaysia and West Malaysia. The capital city
of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur. It is also the largest city of Malaysia as well as the legislative branch
of the government. Malaysia have over 33 million of population and due to its population size it
is the world’s 43rd most populous country. Malaysia is an tropical and megadiverse country as it
is home to numerous endemic species.

Malaysia is an country of multi-ethnicity. At some point the heavy influence of the Chinese and
Indian culture can be seen. They left their marks when trade started to bean with them. Other
countries also left their cultures marks in Malaysia during the trade. The structure of the
government alongside the social contract theory has been minimal cultural assimilation of ethnic
minorities. Some of the cultural disputes still exists in between Malaysia and neighboring countries
but, notably Indonesia. Malaysia does have notable literary traditions, they were influenced by the
pre existing oral stories that came with the Islam.

The history of Malaysia started way back from 40,000 years. The first inhabitants were Negritos.
The modern local cultural influence happened when Indian and Chinese traders arrived in the first
century AD. At that time the Hinduism and Buddhism spread in this area. The Srivijayan and
Majapahit empires played and significant role from the 7th to 14th centuries. The Malacca
Sultanate that was founded in 15th century, had spread the Islam in this region. But in the 20th
century Malaysia saw the British influence. Also in that period the Japanese occupied this region
during the World War II. The Malaysia finally got recognition in 1957.

Malaysia is an federal constitutional elective monarchy. It also makes it the single federal country
of the Southeast Asia. The government system is also influences by the legacy of British rule which
is Westminster parliamentary system. The state head is normally the king and he is also given an
title which is Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The tenure of the king is normally for five years. The legal
system of Malaysia is based on the common law. Even though the judiciary system is said to be
independent, but sometimes its decisions lacks accountability and transparency. The highest court
of Malaysia is the Federal Court.

The economy of Malaysia developed at an notable way in the recent years. It is an newly
industrialized economy. Due to its successful economy Malaysia is the 36th largest nominal GDP
and 31st largest PPP globally. All the sectors have contributed in building an strong economy. On
total GDP the service sector 53.6%, industry 37.6% and agriculture 8.8% contributed successfully.
It also does have low unemployment rate comparing to the other Southeast Asian countries, the
rate is only 3.9%. Malaysia also have the 22nd largest automotive industry. Malaysia also excels
in Islamic banking, high-tech exports, and ranks in global innovation and competitiveness indices.

Company Profile: Proton


Proton was founded in 1983 in Malaysia. It was an initiative to expand and boost the country’s car
industry. Also to decrease the reliance on the imports. The then Prime Minister Mahathis
Mohamed gave lead to the initiative. Thus the government as well played an crucial role in the
establishment and expanding of the Proton. The initiative came out successful. It marked and
incredible mark in the Malaysia’s automotive landscape.

Proton is an successful automotive manufacturing company. It is also globally known due to its
reliable products. Proton specializes into different family cars, SUVs, passenger vehicles and
compact cars. They have notable models like Proton Saga, Proton Persona, Proton Exora and
Proton X70. All these models reflects the companies reliable product and high end cars. Also
shows the diversity lineup of the company. But recently Proton is mostly focusing on the
sustainability and environment protection. That is the reason the company is more focusing on the
manufacturing of the electric cars. They are also well aware about the pollutions that cars causes
and that is why they are introducing green technology. They are aligning their offerings with the
more environmentally friendly solutions.

Proton has an unique dual business strategy. Their strategies are crafting affordable vehicles for
everyone also expanding their business globally. Proton is manufacturing cars that is affordable
also reliable . They are well aware about their market niches and due to this they took the
affordability as one of their strategy. Also Proton is focusing on expanding their business. They
have collaborated with different global automotive partners. Notable mentions will be with China’s
Geely. This collaboration helps them in getting access of the advanced technology of the China.
Proto is also putting emphasis on their research, innovation and quality control.

Proton is operating with a typical hierarchical structure. The top level is normally lead by the CEO.
They takes the major and important decisions for the company. Also others departments are
divided into different segments like, production, marketing, research and development, and
finance. Each of these departments have their own department heads, who takes important
decisions regarding their respective departments. Due to the effective business structure and the
proper co operations from each and every departments Proton have growed significantly.
Establishing in 1963, Proton has evolved significantly and became one of the most important
automotive manufacturing company. Due to its diverse products and strategic collaborations,
Proton has become and important part for the Malaysian economy.
