Socio Cultural factors

These are the social and cultural conditions into which people are born, live, work, grow and
age. Many of these conditions are beyond the control of individuals, yet they have a
significant impact on health status at an individual and population level.
People who experience poor socio-cultural conditions experience worse health status in all
societies. These factors interrelate so one factor may impact on another.

Socio Cultural factors

- Early life experiences
- Access to healthcare
- Cultural norms
- Food Security
- Social exclusion and isolation
- Unemployment
- SES

SES – Socio economic status refers to a person’s position in society relative to their income,
occupation, and education. People who have a lower SES are more socially disadvantaged
and have poorer health status.
