Give at least five terms with brief explanation of how you understand the term as
your takeaways from our previous discussion. "

1. Values- are what reflects the capacity of knowledge of right conduct that we
have obtained from learning normative theories. It concerns how we apply our
realizations from ethical standards onto specific moral problems in our life. Then
as we face the ethical dilemmas, it is expected that we use our values to be able
to weigh things and determine whether such action or decision is ethically correct
or wrong.
2. Equity- equity is not a state of equality but the ways in which the society
provides the same opportunities and rights to people. Moreover, it is a way of
balancing the gap between the privileged and deprived, in order to attain equality
in such a manner. Without the application of equity, fairness wouldn’t be reached.
3. Discretion- this is something which should be practiced in an approach that is
objective, fair and solidly-based. Especially when you are a police officer, having
the power of freedom to make operational decisions should be critically analyzed,
to learn how to not abuse this kind of authority you possess.
4. Rapport- Rapport is something you can establish by applying the Theory of
Ethics of Care when facing ethical issues or dilemmas. This is an important factor
when you want to develop a harmonious relationship with other people or
civilians by means of communicating and clear understanding. By having this
skill, one can be able to grasp the idea of healthy social relations with other
individuals.
5. Egoism- a type of normative theory that does not directly tell you what actions to
portray in different circumstances in life, but it will give you a fundamental
understanding explaining why you behave the way you are now. It evaluates the
actions we have done and makes us realize why we and other people act in such
a manner. It tells us that actions might sometimes be selfish when the actor
wants to benefit himself, but can also be unselfish when he wants to gratify
others with his/her behavior.
