Part 5

We interviewed six teenagers about what they enjoy doing during their spare time. Read the texts below and

Teens on How They Spend Their Spare Time

A – FATHI, 16 years old

Being the only son in the family, I am busy helping my parents with household chores. However, I will always
find time to go for a walk in the park for at least 30 minutes. It helps me to clear my mind and maintain my
fitness level too.

B – MURNI, 17 years old

I want to be a dietitian when I grow up. Since Malaysia is the most obese country in Asia, I want to help
Malaysians lose weight in healthy way. Personally, I do not like sweating and I find exercising very difficult to
do. So, the main key is to take care of our calorie intake. I am recoding the calories of every food in Malaysia
and hopefully, the notes will come in handy when I start my nutrition course next year.

C – TAARIQ, 13 years old

Have you ever heard of jump rope competitions? I am in a jump rope team and I train almost every day. We
travel all over the country for competitions and sometimes, we get invitations to perform too. To spice up our
performance, we do some dancing in between and yes, that is how I keep myself occupied.

D – LEE NING, 15 years old

Like many teenaged girls, I love watching Korean dramas. However, I am doing it for another reason—to
lean the Korean language. I am fascinated with the fact that there are similarities between Mandarin and
Korean languages. Since I speak Mandarin and a bit of Japanese, it ,makes learning Korean language so
much easier.

E – FIONA, 14 years old

My parents own a home library, and I guess that is how I became an avid reader. I pick up books of all
genres but most of my personal collections are autobiographies. I would like to know how successful people
live their lives and what their contributions are to society.

F – KARISMA, 17 years old

I cannot live without my phone as I love taking pictures of nature--- experimenting with different lighting and
weird angles. Sometimes, I have the really good ones printed but due to budget constraints, I upload all of
my photos on my Instagram account. I also follow some professional photographers’ account to get some
tips and ideas.
