This is called the place value of a digit. Examples: In the number 3978, the digit 8 has a place value of 8. In the number 5384, the digit 8 has a place value of 8x10= 80. In the number 4853, the digit 8 has a place value of 8x100= 800. We always start reading from the left-hand side. Each group of three digits is read in the same way. *Do not forget to add the word “and” after the name of any hundreds and the names of any tens.
